Brewers 2023 Draft Pick Moves Up to Double-A Biloxi

Arguably one of the biggest pitching prospects early in the season, Brett Wichrowski was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 13th round last year and given a $100,000 bonus. This year, Wichrowski is taking it to the next level, touching 100 mph with his fastball in spring training after sitting in the low 90s in college. Now, Wichrowski has been promoted from High-A Wisconsin to Double-A Biloxi on Tuesday.

Brett Wichrowski Has Been Promoted to Double-A Biloxi

Wichrowsku made 14 appearances at Bryant University last season. In seven starts, he posted a 5-3 record with a 4.50 ERA with 64 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched. He was a Second-Team All-America East selection after starting the season in the bullpen. In his sophomore season, he pitched in 13 games, making eight starts by finishing the campaign with a 2-2 record and a 5.21 ERA in 38 innings pitched.

Wichrowski’s Overpowering Performance from Brewers Prospect Showcase Game

The right-hander turned heads this spring, whether it was in minor league camp or during his brief appearance in a Cactus League game. Well, his fastball made a case for Wichrowski, which sat 98 to 99 mph in one inning of work. He combines it with a hard, breaking cutter and a sweeper. Wichrowsku doesn’t look like a 13th-round player. Instead, he doesn’t see himself as one.

“I don’t let stuff get to me or anything,” he said. “We’re all here for a reason. I just want to show that I can pitch here.”

When it comes to opposing hitters, Wichrowski is showing confidence while getting comfortable at the pro level.

“I think just attacking hitters is my strong suit,” Wichorwski said. “I feel very comfortable on the mound and getting ahead of hitters and suffocating them. Just letting my stuff do what I’ve been doing for the past how many years of my life.”

Brewers Promote Tyler Black

The Brewers have themselves a strong pitcher in the making with Wichrowski. On the other hand, the club is will call up Tyler Black on Tuesday. Black is not on the 40-man roster as another move will have to be made. Wade Miley is the ideal candidate to go on the 60-day injured list. Miley is going to miss the rest of the season due to Tommy John surgery.

Black started the 2023 season at Double-A, hitting .273/.411/.513 with 47 stolen bases in 84 games. He finished out the year with a promotion to Triple-A as he hit four home runs across 39 games.
