The 93rd annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Seattle, Washington is coming up soon. This means the first half of the MLB season is about to wrap up. The players who will participate in the Midsummer Classic are also being revealed. Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani is the leading vote-getter in the American League. Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. is the leading vote-getter for the National League. For the New York Mets, they will be sending only one of their own to All-Star Week in the Pacific Northwest: the Polar Bear, Pete Alonso.

The Mets’ Pete Alonso Selected to NL All-Star Team
For the third time in his five-year career, Alonso will be representing the Mets in the All-Star Game. 2020’s All-Star Game did not happen due to the shortened season with the COVID-19 pandemic, and Alonso was not selected for the 2021 event despite hitting 37 home runs that year.

Alonso will go in as a reserve player behind starting first baseman Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He will be the only Mets representative at this year’s Midsummer Classic.
Pete Alonso’s 2023 So Far
Pete Alonso earned his third All-Star honor by doing what he usually does, driving in runs and hitting moonshots. While his batting average is a mere .217, Alonso has hit 24 home runs, which is good for second in the National League. He only trails fellow first baseman Matt Olson of the Braves, who has hit 28 of his own. Before the wrist injury that kept him out of action for 10 days, Alonso was on pace for 60 home runs. Alonso’s 55 RBI put him at fifth in the National League. He continues to be an extremely valuable piece to the Mets organization. Three All-Star Game appearances in five years is an impressive feat for the 28-year-old slugger, and there are likely more to come in the future.
