Willie Calhoun Clears Waivers

Willie Calhoun

In an unexpected twist, outfielder Willie Calhoun has cleared waivers according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. This means that Calhoun is still in the Texas Rangers organization. The announcement came prior to Saturday’s game between the Rangers, and the Chicago White Sox. He is currently with their Triple-A team in Round Rock, Texas. Calhoun has had a tough season thus far in the Lone Star state. Overall, he has had mixed results for the Rangers over his career. Fans are very much looking forward to seeing what he can do at Triple-A.

Willie Calhoun’s 2022 Season

It is time for Willie Calhoun to prove that he belongs in the Major Leagues. It has been less than a week since he was designated for assignment. His numbers at the plate both at Triple-A and the majors have not been good. In 44 at-bats this season, Calhoun is hitting .136 with one home run, and two RBI in 18 games. He has recorded six hits, and he has scored seven runs. So far, Calhoun has a SLG of .273, and an OBP of .283. It will be very interesting to see how Willie Calhoun fares at Triple-A. Time will tell if he’ll rejoin the big club at some point in 2022, or if he’ll stay in the minors. At the end of the day, it is all up to Calhoun to produce.

Other Roster Moves

The news that Willie Calhoun is definitely worth following, but the Rangers also made several other roster moves prior to Saturday’s game. They announced that outfielder Steele Walker has been placed on the COVID-19 Related Injured List, and that outfielder Zach Reks was added to the active roster as a replacement player from Triple-A Round Rock. Walker went 1-for-14 (.071) at the plate over five games with the Rangers in his first Major League action. His only hit was a home run in Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians. The Dallas-area native has spent the balance of the season with Round Rock, batting .297/.395/.486/.881 with three home runs and nine RBI in 20 games.

Reks is entering his third stint with the Rangers this year (also April 30-May 10 and May 30-June 2). The outfielder has batted .227 (5-for-22) with three RBI in nine games for Texas in 2022. With Round Rock this season, Reks has slashed .340/.433/.631/1.064 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 29 games. The Chicago-area native is a 2012 graduate of Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois.
