Rangers Acquire Nate Lowe From Rays

Nate Lowe

There has been a flurry of front office activity in Arlington over the past week. On Thursday, the Texas Rangers traded for first baseman Nate Lowe from the Tampa Bay Rays. It’s still two weeks until the Christmas holiday, and the Rangers already have several stocking stuffers.

Trade Specifics

The Rangers are getting Lowe as part of a six-player swap that includes catcher-outfielder Heriberto Hernandez. They are also getting first baseman Jake Guenther and a player to be named later in the deal. Meanwhile, the Rangers are sending Minor League infielder Osleivis Basabe, and outfield prospect Alexander Ovalles to the Rays. It will be very interesting to see if there are more puzzle pieces that emerge for the Rangers before Opening Day.

Fresh Face at First

The Rangers have gotten a young glove at first base in Nate Lowe. To date, the 25-year old has 286 career at-bats and a career batting average of .251. In 2020, he hit .224 with four home runs, 11 RBI, and 10 runs scored. The Rangers have to be excited about his glove, as he has put up a career fielding percentage of .994 in 2019. A lot of fans will be curious to see how Manager Chris Woodward plans to fit him in the lineup.

Busy Time of Year

As well as appointing a new General Manager in former pitcher Chris Young, the Rangers also made a deal earlier in the week that sent their ace Lance Lynn to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for righty Dane Dunning, and left-hander Avery Weems. This was a trade that many Rangers fans did not want to see, but were expecting at some point in time. Hopefully, they benefit from the new arms that they have.

Countdown to April

Fans are already clamoring for the season to start. 2020 has been a hard year for everyone, and Rangers fans are definitely ready to see if these new additions will pay off.
