Washington Nationals to Hold Virtual Ring Ceremony

Washington Nationals

2019 World Series Champions

On Sunday May, 24th, the Washington Nationals will hold a virtual ring ceremony. The ceremony will commemorate the team’s World Series championship from last season. The news, which was officially announced Tuesday, was first released on the team’s Twitter page.

According to The Washington Post, the ceremony will start at 7:00 PM on Sunday. Furthermore, Nationals fans and anyone else interested, can watch the ceremony in a number of different formats. It will be broadcast on MASN and MLB Network. In addition, anyone interested can view the ceremony live on the Nationals website, Facebook, or via YouTube.

Given the current Coronavirus pandemic across the country, the Nationals have been unable to hold a ring ceremony for fans to celebrate with, in-person. Originally, the team planned on doing the ceremony on April 2nd which would have been their home opener against the New York Mets.

2019 Nationals Season

Last year at this exact time, the Washington Nationals sat in fourth place in the NL East. At that time, the team was nine games back of first place. Additionally, the team’s skipper Dave Martinez and general manager Mike Rizzo were in danger of losing their jobs.

However, once the calendar flipped to June, the team took off. As a unit, they posted a record of 69-36. In the second half of the season, the team had a 46-27 record, a .630 winning percentage. Quite the turn around and tale of two seasons for a team.

Additionally, once the postseason rolled around Washington turned into the hottest team in MLB. After narrowly winning the Wild Card Game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Nationals finished the remainder of the postseason with an 11-5 record.

Final Thoughts

In the end, it’s a shame that the Washington Nationals won’t get to celebrate the ceremony in-person at Nationals Park with their fanbase. Given the current circumstances facing the country, that is not possible right now.

However, one thing is for certain and that’s the fact that no one will forget the story about the 2019 Washington Nationals. It’s one filled that started with disappointment and sadness, but finished with excitement and euphoria. Oh, and no one can forget about the Baby Shark dance, either!
