MLB to Investigate Sam Dyson for Domestic Violence

MLB has opened up an investigation on free agent reliever Sam Dyson for domestic violence. The investigation is a result of two Instagram posts made by Alexis Blackburn. Blackburn is the ex-partner of Dyson. The posts alluded to Dyson abusing both Blackburn and their cat. Despite Blackburn not naming Dyson in the post, Ken Rosenthal has confirmed with a source that Dyson is the subject in question.

Social Media Evidence

As part of the investigation, MLB will interview Blackburn in the coming days. Blackburn posted the following on her Instagram account:

“I am broken though. I’ve allowed my physical health, my emotional health, and my mental health to diminish to nothing. I’ve allowed more things to happen than I want to admit. I don’t know who this girl is right now because this hasn’t been me. I haven’t been me in so long.”

Blackburn also left a message on the Instagram account of their cat Snuckles. Part of that message is, “No one deserves to be intimidated, scared, worthless and hopeless.”

MLB Issues

MLB has had to deal with some of their players getting in trouble in the last few years. In 2017 former player Derek Norris was suspended after getting accused of physical and emotional abuse by his former fiancee. In 2018 Chicago Cubs infielder Addison Russell was suspended for physical and emotional abuse by his ex-wife. This past September Pittsburgh Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez was arrested for having sex with a minor.

Dyson Outlook

Sam Dyson started the 2019 season with the San Francisco Giants and was traded to the Minnesota Twins on July 31st. Dyson was placed on the injured list twice with the Twins before having season ending capsule surgery on his right shoulder.

Dyson who was released by the Twins and is currently a free agent is expected to miss most of the 2020 season. It is not known if any suspension to Dyson will begin immediately or when Dyson is either signed by a team and ready to play in the major leagues.
