Adam Jones Enjoying WBC Success

The World Baseball Classic has so far been full of excitement, thrills and surprises- which isn’t much a surprise. While the tournament is a great source of entertainment for even the most casual of fans, it’s a great insight as to how various fan favorites are faring before the regular season is underway. The Baltimore Orioles have five of their MLB level players participating in the tournament. Among them is Adam Jones, and he has been making the most of his opportunity to represent his country. Flashing his power and defense, Adam Jones has shown the world he’s ready to help lead the hopeful Orioles to another post season appearance.

Adam Jones In Mid-Season Form

The second round game against Venezuela featured late inning heroics courtesy of both Jones and Eric Hosmer. While the rest of the game’s highlights can be found here, Jones’ shining moment came during the eight inning. A solo homer off fellow major leaguer Hector Rondon tied the game for Team USA and put Hosmer in place for his own game changing play.

This is just the next installment on the list of contributions written by Jones. In the first round of the tournament, Jones came to the rescue in the 10th inning of the showdown against Columbia. With two outs, Jones delivered the walk-off single that scored Christian Yelich and opened Team USA’s pleasant run so far.

While not widely viewed as a clutch player, Jones has had his moments in the past. He’s currently 5-18 (.278), having hit three doubles and a home run. Jones’ career numbers are nearly identical to what he’s done so far in the World Baseball Classic. Orioles fans should be encouraged by the play they’ve seen out of their All-Star outfielder thus far.

The US should be ready for Jones to answer the call once again on the way to a hopeful tournament win. Team USA still has games to play against the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. These games determine if USA will play the Netherlands for a shot at the finals. Japan sits in wait for the semi-finals on the other side other bracket.
