Our final rankings of the year are here. Alabama is the undisputed national champion after their National Championship Game win over Clemson. Clemson stays at #2 after their hard-fought loss. Five different conferences are represented in the Top 5, while Michigan State’s blowout loss to Alabama in the Cotton Bowl slid the Spartans down to #6. Ole Miss’ tremendous bowl showing made them the biggest risers of the bowl season, moving up nine spots from #17 to #8.

The Big Ten was the most represented conference, putting six teams in the rankings. The Big Ten may have disappointed overall in bowls, but three teams from each division made it into the final rankings. The SEC and Big XII each put four teams in the final rankings. The ACC and Pac 12 end the year with a disappointing three teams in the final rankings, something that must hurt for the Pac 12 after the high expectations coming into this year. The AAC saw two ranked teams, Notre Dame got in as an independent, and the final two spots were claimed by two very good teams from “mid-major” conferences–Western Kentucky from Conference USA and Toledo from the MAC.
