LWOS College Football Week 7 Top 25

The Ohio State Buckeyes are back at #1. Maybe it’s because Utah struggled a bit against Arizona State, maybe it’s because the Buckeyes finally looked consistent on offense once JT Barrett took the quarterback spot back, or maybe it’s a combination of both. Whatever the reason, the Buckeyes barely jumped the Utes to get back to #1, though both teams received seven first-place votes. It helped that Ohio State’s doubters are starting to become more sold on the Buckeyes, as only two voters had them outside the top three.

Just missed out: Northwestern

Dropped out: Northwestern (17), Boise State (21)

Boise State dropped out of our rankings with an embarrassing eight turnovers against Utah State and will probably stay out of them unless they run the table from here. The were replaced by another Group of 5 team, though, as two teams from the American Athletic Conference moved into the two vacated slots in our rankings. That means that, including Memphis, the AAC has three ranked teams, tying it with the ACC.

The SEC has returned to the top spot as the most-represented conference in our rankings, putting in five teams. The Big XII, Pac 12, and Big Ten each have four, while the MAC placed one team with undefeated Toledo and Notre Dame is the lone independent to earn a ranking.

All five power conferences have at least one team in the top seven, with the Big XII (TCU and Baylor) and the Big Ten (Ohio State and Michigan State) have two teams in that range. Four conferences have two teams in the Top 10, with the Pac 12 just missing out on joining the rest of their Power 5 brethren (Stanford is at #11).
