On a wild and unpredictable college football weekend that saw four undefeated teams go down, Ohio State and Clemson held serve at home and top our rankings with the Tigers just barely edging out the Buckeyes for the top spot after week 10. These teams certainly appeared to establish themselves as the clear-cut top two in the eyes of our voters as they were the only ones who garnered first-place votes this week.
Alabama and Notre Dame round out the final two playoff spots this week. The Crimson Tide’s defense shut down Heisman candidate Leonard Fournette while their own running back Derrick Henry might have entered his name into the conversation for that coveted award. And who knows, perhaps even Irish quarterback Deshone Kizer may even be in the mix after his performance on the road against Pittsburgh.
Memphis’ fledgling CFP hopes are all but over after falling in fairly unimpressive fashion to Navy on Saturday. The loss may have also severely hampered their chances at finishing as the top Group of Five team in the polls, thus getting a bid to a New Year’s Six bowl. And watch out for the Midshipmen in that regard. If they can run the table, they may yet still be alive for perhaps the biggest bowl appearance in program history.
Six unbeatens remain, but expect that number to dwindle as we truly begin to reach the home stretch of the college football regular season.
