LA Galaxy Double Game Week: Playoff Seeding Looms Large

CARSON, Calif. – The Los Angeles Galaxy have had a rough few weeks. After a signature win in El Trafico, the Galaxy have lost three straight games, all on the road, all to teams that expect to make the playoffs. With two games this weeks where they host Western Conference opponents, this LA Galaxy double game week could be one of the most important of the season.

LA Galaxy Double Game Week: Two Six Pointers With Playoff Implications

First the Galaxy play host to FC Dallas today then Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday night. The Galaxy find themselves in 5th in the Western Conference with Seattle in 2nd and Dallas in 7th. Second place and 8th (the first spot outside the playoffs) are separated by just five points.

The Galaxy have two six-pointers on their hands. Dallas are a young team this year led by Paxton Pomykal. They might not have the expectation of a Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristian Pavon led LA Galaxy. They also might not have the pressure.

Meanwhile the Sounders are on a decent run of form with a record of 3-2-1. The defense might not be the same with Chad Marshall retired, but the attack is as potent as ever with Nicolas Lodeiro, Raul Ruidiaz, and Jordan Morris.

The Galaxy have some internal inefficiencies to deal with, as the team still hasn’t been able to find consistency and play at a level greater than the sum of their parts. Ibrahimovic brings the lion’s share of the offense but has been frustrated at times during this losing streak. Pavon brought energy in his debut but the team needs him to start producing given the circumstances.

LA have had some bad breaks in the last three games. They’ve have to find a way to turn their fortunes around. This week would be a good time to start. With just 10 games left in the season, it might be necessary.
