LA Galaxy Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy Retires

Kennedy is a Fullerton, CA native. He played college soccer at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he still holds numerous all-time goalkeeping records. He led the Gauchos to the 2004 College Cup Final.

He started his professional career with the Puerto Rico Islanders in USL Pro, where he was the 2005 USL Rookie of the Year. After a brief stint in Chile, he returned home to play for Chivas USA in MLS.

He spent the majority of his ten-year career with the club, being one of their few bright spots. Kennedy owns numerous records for the now defunct club, including most games played (144), starts (142), saves (451), clean sheets (28), and minutes played (12,74).

“I am incredibly grateful to have spent ten years playing in Major League Soccer. There are countless people – my teammates, coaches, fans and family – that have been deeply influential in my career and that have helped me forge some of the best memories of my life,” Kennedy said. He added “I will walk away from my playing career proud of the time I spent in this league and how far it has come. I am excited to take this next step in my career with the LA Galaxy as I walk away from my time on the field.”

Kennedy was taken first overall in the 2014 Chivas USA Dispersal draft after the club ceased operations. He was selected by FC Dallas. He played one season for the club, making 16 appearances.

He was traded to the Galaxy in the off-season, assuming a starting role at the beginning of the 2016 season. He was injured in the opening game of the season however, and was ultimately unseated by Brian Rowe. Kennedy made only three appearances for the club and came into 2017 as the third choice goalkeeper.

Kennedy will assume a youth programming and development role in the front office. He will continue to be a part of the Galaxy radio broadcast team.
