Adam Cole Returns to NXT: Big Future Match Made

NXT TakeOver In Your House results main event

On last night’s episode of WWE NXT (June 1), Adam Cole returned to the brand he has become synonymous with. Confronting NXT Champion, Karrion Kross – a title that Cole, again, is synonymous with – Cole tore into the bigger man with one of the best promos of his career. He referred to Kross as “Mr. Overrated”, before cutting deeper with a scathing attack on the champion.

“This brand has done everything in its power to make you feel special. You’ve got the cool music, you’ve got the lights, you’ve got the fog machine, you’ve got the girl [Scarlett Bordeaux]. You know what they do to make Adam Cole feel special? They ring the freakin’ bell. Because on your best day, you couldn’t lace my boots.”

Match Booked For Upcoming NXT TakeOver: In Your House

Ouch. NXT General Manager, William Regal, attempted to defuse the situation, but was quickly shut down by Kross. Kross then proceeded to declare that at NXT TakeOver: In Your House 2021, he wants “everybody”. A fatal five-way match for the NXT Championship. Kross defending against Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Johnny Gargano and Pete Dunne. It normally would not make sense for a heel to book himself into a title defense against four men, but Kross is no ordinary heel. A fighting champion more akin to the monsters of old than, say, The Miz. This is, given the caliber of the competitors involved, going to be a pretty fun – if not great – five-way match. Should Kross win, his dominance over the NXT brand is established. Should he lose, maybe Adam Cole’s words were true – he is “overrated”. NXT TakeOver: In Your House 2021 comes to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida on June 13.
