NXT Women's Tag Team Championships

NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Crowned

On NXT Wednesday night, William Regal made two major announcements. The biggest is that there will officially be NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships. The announcement comes from last week’s events where WWE official Adam Pearce caused Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez to lose their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match against Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax. It led to a confrontation between Regal and Pearce in the back as the official utilized a Raw referee to nearly guarantee the win for the champions and to keep the titles on Raw and SmackDown.

We are weeks removed from the first Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic coming to an end where Kai and Gonzalez walked out as the winners. Kai and Gonzalez were seconds away from winning. As part of his annoucement, Regal crowned Kai and Gonzalez the first ever WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Fans will likely be worried about the handling of the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships due to WWE’s handling of theirs to this point. If the NXT Cruiserweight Championship is anything to go by, there should be optimism for these two titles. More added optimism, perhaps, due to how loaded the NXT women’s division remains to this day. This will give them another chance to shine more in a unique fashion and give the less involved women a chance to form tag teams and show what they got. That should be the real win for fans and wrestlers alike.
