Day 3 of G1 Climax 30 commences with five killer matches, including the main event that includes two of the biggest favorites in the entire tournament. Here is your full preview for Day 3 and the second outing for the A Block in the G1 Climax.
Kota Ibushi vs. Jay White
A rematch from last year’s G1 Climax final. Reigning G1 Climax winner Kota Ibushi got off to a great start on Day 1 when he defeated Kazuchika Okada in the main event to win his first match and earn 2 points. Jay White had the same success, defeating LIJ’s Shingo Takagi via Blade Runner to walk away with 2 points. These two are the favorites for the A Block, meaning this match could be what ultimately determines who walks away as the winner at the end of the tournament. White also defeated Ibushi earlier this year on Night 2 of Wrestle Kingdom 14. Perhaps White has figured out how to beat Ibushi after coming up short.
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Will Ospreay
Tomohiro Ishii remains one of NJPW’s most beloved wrestlers and his start in the tournament is not going to please many. A tough loss to Minoru Suzuki has him looking for answers, now against one of the favorites of A Block. Will Ospreay picked up a win in the opening match of the tournament against Yujiro Takahashi. This co-main event should be one to keep an eye on.
Minoru Suzuki vs. Taichi
The only other match besides the main event to have two winners face off. Minoru Suzuki survived the stiff strike fest with Tomohiro Ishii to walk out with 2 points while Taichi defeated Jeff Cobb to do the same. This one will be big for two guys seen as underdogs to walk out as the winner of this Block.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Yujiro Takahashi
2-time winner Kazuchika Okada goes into his second match without points, something that isn’t crazy to him believes it or not. He was outdone by last year’s winner Kota Ibushi in a fantastic main event. He will fave his latest rival, Yujiro Takahashi, in hopes of picking up his first win and adventuring to his first G1 Climax win since 2014. Takahashi lost in the opening match of the tournament to Ospreay. A win for him would be a major upset.
Jeff Cobb vs. Shingo Takagi
Both of these two men came up short. For Jeff Cobb, it was a loss to one-half of the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, Taichi. And for Shingo Takagi, it was a tough loss in the co-main event of Day 1 to “Switchblade” Jay White. Neither of these men wants to start off 0-2, so expect a little desperation from both sides in a fight that should be hard-hitting to walk out with a win in G1 Climax 30.
