Well, didn’t see that one coming. In the main event of NXT on Wednesday, the world saw Cameron Grimes, KUSHIDA, and a mystery competitor fight for the opportunity to join the ladder match for the vacant NXT North American Championship. That mystery competitor had to stun many as Velveteen Dream returned to the black and gold brand for the first time in two months. Considering the rumors and reports surrounding him for months, there was no certainty as to when he may return.

And while he came up short, he showed a new edge following the match that hasn’t ever been seen by the exotic one. As KUSHIDA locked in the hoverboard lock on Dream, Grimes hit the huge standing stomp on KUSHIDA to steal the match and move on to NXT TakeOver: XXX. With Dream losing the first opportunity, Dream attacked KUSHIDA after the match and showed an edge that fans had never seen before.
After the attack, he posed before his opponent for next week, Finn Balor, appeared. They will compete against each other to decide who moves on to the final qualifying match that will decide the final competitor in the NXT North American Championship ladder match.
For the Velveteen Dream, this is a chance to establish a new chapter in his career and hopefully find that mega potential he once had.
