#AndNEW Day: Big E Re-Solidifies Himself With Biggest Singles Win In Years

Big E

The New Day are now eight-time tag team champions in the WWE following their championship win on SmackDown this past Friday. But this was their most unique victory yet, as not one, but two members were not needed to capture tag team gold. In the past, The New Day have won tag titles through utilizing the third man, great tag team wrestling, and going above and beyond to get the job done as a team. Their eighth title win was on the back of one man — that man being Big E. This could very well be the long-awaited start to more than just tag team greatness for the former “Master of the 5 Count.”

Something Kofi Kingston Couldn’t Do: Win On His Own

Just over a year ago, Kofi Kingston won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. One year later, he came up short in a ladder match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, losing to John Morrison. Two weeks later, Big E did what Kingston was not able to do and that won those tag team titles by himself. Not that is saying too much because they are two different matches, but in the end, one person got it done and the other did not. And in doing so, Big E pinned a former WWE Champion in The Miz. This was the biggest singles win for Big E in a long time, with most of his efforts coming in matches alongside The New Day or struggling to fine wins, this was a big one.

While they may be champions all over again, Big E has more in him and everyone knows that. This win can be what propels him to the next big step, a singles run of dominance.

Singles Run To Come?

It has been years since Big E was winning singles gold, whether it was the NXT Championship or Intercontinental Championship. And back then, he was not the complete package yet. He was raw, had the potential, but hadn’t put it all together. Now several years later alongside Kingston and Xavier Woods, he is ready to go. In the ring, on the microphone, wherever it may be. Big E is ready to accelerate his spot from simply a tag team extraordinaire to a singles champion, with being a world champion incredibly reasonable. Not many have the combination of charisma, size, and strength that Big E has. He showed all these skills on SmackDown Friday, making it seem that someone in the back could see the same (finally) in the newly crowned SmackDown Tag Team Champion.

The SmackDown main event will require someone else when “The Fiend” and Braun Strowman are over with, so Big E can make that step. The New Day is great. They got Kingston to the top and after a lot of time could get Big E there. But there’s no time to waist. Big E is ready and his win on Friday night showed the world what he was capable of all over again. If WWE was smart, they wouldn’t need to have Big E show the world again to understand what they have in a man. A main event caliber star awaiting the opportunity to blossom into that exact star.
