#AndNEW: Dan Maff Becomes Northeast Wrestling Champion.

Dan Maff

This past weekend, Northeast Wrestling (NEW) held the show Over The Top. It’s an annual January event with the main event featuring a thirty man rumble match, but before that match actually happened, we have the co-main event of the evening for the NEW World Championship featuring Darby Allin and Dan Maff.

Towards the end of 2019, one of the biggest stories of NEW was the debut of the Legendary Independent Wrestler, Dan Maff. In his first match for the company, he would go into a brutal bout with Wrecking Ball Legursky which ended in a DQ. They would have a rematch on the next show where Dan Maff and Legursky would have another incredible bout. It was announced that at the next show Maff would face champion Darby Allin in a title match.

Darby Allin’s reign as NEW World Champion featured 8 title defenses, against the likes of JT Dunn, Brian Anthony, Wrecking Ball Legursky, Hale Collins, and Christian Casanova. But it was at Over The Top the reign of Darby Allin would end as Dan Maff would catch Darby Allin in a brutal submission, knocking Darby Allin out to become Northeast Wrestling Heavyweight Champion for the first time in his career. The dominance of Dan Maff is only just beginning, with only 3 matches under his NEW belt. Maff looks to face off against the next contender, who was crowned in the Over The Top Rumble.

In the main event of the evening, thirty men would face off in an Over The Top Rumble. We had the likes of the returning Anthony Greene, stars such as JT Dunn, Flip Gordon, Brian Pillman Jr, Christian Casanova, Mike Verna, Wrecking Ball Legursky and Keith Youngblood. Keith Youngblood is one of the top stars of NEW and was in a bitter feud with Brian Anthony, the crowd started to get behind him with his “No More Waiting” campaign.

After failing to gain the NEW Live Championship in a triple threat, Keith Youngblood would enter the Rumble, lastly eliminating Richard Holiday to become the winner of the rumble and to gain a future opportunity at the NEW Heavyweight Championship against the champion Dan Maff in a future event. What does the future hold for NEW? We got a career vs. crown match on February 15th, so get ready for a preview of that show in the near future.
