Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) is breaking down territorial walls, travelling from their home in New Jersey to take GCW action around the US, with cards in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Nashville, NYC, and going global with tours of Japan (Detroit is getting their first GCW experience on March 21). On Saturday, they make their Texas debut, as they present Take A Picture from the vibrant Austin area. You can watch Take A Picture live on FITE.tv.
Preview: GCW – Take A Picture (1/18/20)
Blake Christian vs. Gino Medina
After an explosive 2019 as one of the top discoveries from the US indie scene, Blake Christian looks to expand on that. The athletic superstar has been wowing people around the country for the past six months or so, and on Saturday he faces one of Major League Wrestling (MLW)’s new stars in Texas’ own, Gino Medina. Gino Medina is the son of 80s and 90s lucha star El Sanguinario, a star with the Monterrey, Mexico-based promotion Federación Internacional de Lucha Libre (FILL), who also appeared for AAA and CMLL on occasion. He also wrestled as Máscara Sagrada and Máscara Maligna on occasion. He began training with Booker T and has worked for Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling (ROW) out of Houston, Texas, where he’s a former 3x ROW Heavyweight Champion.
Nate Webb vs. Ricky Starks
A former 2x IWA Mid South Light Heavyweight Champion, Nate Webb is a veteran of the hard-hitting style and on Saturday he faces one of the young faces of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) in Texas star Ricky Starks. Both men are highly adaptable, which should make for a great encounter.
Matthew Justice vs. Jimmy Lloyd
A late addition to the card, it features two men – one an indie veteran, the other a rising star – who are going to collide for the first time in singles action. Matthew Justice worked the US indies for years, but in the past couple he’s emerged as a legit threat for any companies gold – he’s the reigning Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW) Absolute Champion, while also the current (and 2x) AIW Intense Champion. A big man with a plethora of abilities, he’s facing the current heart and soul of GCW in “A Different Boy” Jimmy Lloyd. A few years back, Jimmy was simply a kid learning his craft, but he’s emerged as one of (if not the) GCW heart and soul wrestlers.
Alex Zayne vs. Chris Bey
If you’re a fan of the indie scene in the US, chances are you’re now familiar with Alex Zayne. One of GCW’s 2019 discoveries, Zayne has gone on to show he’s arguably the best and most innovative high flyer in the US right now. He’s just recently back in the US after his first tour in Japan. His opponent is another young star, this time from the West Coast, who has proven to be one of the top prospects in the US indie scene as well, in Chris Bey. Bey has all the tools and has appeared for the likes of IMPACT, WWE, and Ring of Honor in 2019. Not only a Match of the Night candidate, but also Match of the Year potential.
MASADA vs. SHLAK
If you’re wondering which match on the card will be a deathmatch, this would be the one. MASADA, from Beaumont, Texas, has been a veteran of the hardcore/deathmatch circuit for 17 years, who has spilled his (and other’s) blood in Big Japan, CZW, Ring of Honor, GCW and countless others. The veteran is facing an absolute mad man in the monster SHLAK, whose disregard for his own well-being often leads to terrible things happening to his opponents. As AC/DC once said, “if you want blood…you got it!”
Chris Dickinson vs. “Dirty” Andy Dalton
“The Dirty Daddy” Chris Dickinson is starting 2020 the same way he ended 2019, as one of the true power players of the US indie scene. Arguably the face of Beyond Wrestling in the past year, he’s also a veteran of GCW, where his combination of power, speed and technical finesse has made him a can’t-miss wrestler. He’s facing a 16-year pro in San Antonio, Texas’ “Dirty” Andy Dalton, whose no stranger to violence. A regular with Texas’ Metroplex Wrestling, Dalton has worked the Texas scene and beyond. A solid darkhorse sleeper if you’re not familiar with either.
Nick Gage vs. Allie Kat
He may have lost his GCW World Championship recently, but Nick Gage remains the cold heart & sinful soul of GCW. With his “gang affiliated” fan base behind him, Gage truly lives the MDK lifestyle all f*cking day and continues to have one of the most diversified schedule of opponents thanks to his work with GCW, Beyond Wrestling, and CHIKARA. Not to mention, he had some outstanding intergender matches last year, including wars against Kris Statlander and Jordynne Grace. On Saturday, he faces another Texas indie prospect who has become one of the top performers on the national indies front, in Allie Kat. Allie probably won’t be able to convince Gage to rub her belly for this one though.
Non-Title Match: Rickey Shane Page (c) vs. Mance Warner
Newly anointed GCW World Champion Rickey Shane Page is appearing in Texas on Saturday, but has declared his match a non-title match. It was an open challenge and none other than former CZW World Champion and MLW star Mance Warner has answered the call. These two had a hellacious deathmatch in CZW over the World title and they nearly killed each other. This return match will undoubtedly be another banger.
