In an interview with Wrestling Epicenter’s James Walsh on the Interactive Wrestling Radio podcast, former ECW, WWE, WCW, and TNA/IMPACT Superstar Johnny Swinger covered a lot of topics of his lengthy career, but he dropped one piece of information of great interest. He was getting set to begin training Bronson Rechsteiner, the son of former WWE/WCW Superstar Rick Steiner, to become a professional wrestler. “I’m getting ready to train Rick Steiner’s son, Bronson. He’s been wanting to do it for a few years now,” Swinger said. “He’s finishing up college. He’s going to be the next big thing. He really is. He’s about 6’1. He was a State champion. He’s playing football for KSU right now. He’s going to be a stud, man!”
A running back with the Kennesaw State Owls, a Big South NCAA Division I team out of Kennesaw, Georgia, Bronson Rechsteiner is 6’1″ and 230 lbs. He played high school football with Etowah High School in Woodstock, Georgia, before joining KSU in 2016. Prior to joining KSU to play football, Bronson was a highly respected amateur wrestler, who won the Georgia Class AAAAAA State Championship in the 220-pound weight class.
Almost since the earliest days of pro wrestling, promoters and fans alike have been entranced by multi-generational wrestlers, from the large lucha dynastias in Mexico to revered families like the Anoa’i, the Harts, the Funks, and the Flairs. Bronson’s father, Rick Steiner, was one of the toughest men in pro wrestling for thirty years, and still periodically puts on the boots to reunite with his brother, Scott Steiner, to create some havoc.
Rick Steiner, like his younger brother Scott, was a standout amateur wrestler in Michigan before going pro, debuting in pro wrestling a few years prior to Big Poppa Pump. He started out in the American Wrestling Association (AWA) as Rob Rechsteiner in 1985, before moving around between Mid South and Mid Atlantic. In 1989, Rick was finally put together with his brother Scott to form the Steiner Brothers, one of the most innovative and dominant tag teams of its era. The duo would go on to become 6x WCW World Tag Team Champions, 2x WWE World Tag Team Champions, 2x IWGP Tag Team Champions and NWA World Tag Team Champions.
