Chicago’s Freelance Wrestling is back with a huge card for Independence Day weekend, with Wet Hot American Supershow coming live on Friday night on IndependentWrestling.tv from the Logan Square Auditorium in Chicago. A stacked card of some of the Midwest’s finest and lots of national wrestlers coming through.
Preview: Freelance Wrestling – Wet Hot American Supershow
Project Monix vs. Royce Isaacs
Pat “Project” Monix has been one of the Midwest’s top rising stars the past few years, establishing a solid name for himself with IWA Mid South where he’s a former IWA Mid South Junior Heavyweight Champion and Tag Team Champion. The Chicago native is coming home to go head to head with one of the West Coast’s best in Royce Isaacs, one half of the tag team One Percent. Isaacs has been tearing it up with Future Stars of Wrestling (FSW), DEFY, PCW ULTRA and others, and now looks to continue his singles portfolio in the East.
Steve Manders vs. Alexander Lee vs. Atticus Cogar vs. Arik Cannon vs. Gregory Iron vs. Swoggle
A big 6-man affair featuring a diverse array of characters. Steve Manders is an emerging star in the Midwest, making his debut in 2017. Since then he’s worked for IWA Mid South, Rockstar Pro, Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), All American Wrestling (AAW) and more, and now looks to make his name in Freelance Wrestling. Alexander Lee is a longtime veteran of the New England scene, with Maine’s Independent Wrestling Entertainment (IWE), where he’s a 5x IWE Heavyweight Champion, and Massachusetts’ Northeast Championship Wrestling. 22-year old Atticus Cogar is another emerging star from the Midwest, as the Ohio native has been working with his home state Premier Championship Wrestling (PCW) and Pennsylvania’s International Wrestling Cartel (IWC). Arik Cannon is an indie legend, a regular with AAW, AIW, CHIKARA and more, including his own F1RST Wrestling in Minnesota. Gregory Iron is another Midwest veteran of AIW, AAW and more, who has become a regular with Ethan Page‘s Alpha-1 in Canada. Former WWE Superstar Swoggle continues his indie run as the final entrant in the 6-way.
Take It Homewreckers (Darin Corbin & Bucky Collins) & Kenny Sutra vs. Tripp Cassidy, Levi Everett & Ace Perry
Two thirds of the Take It Homewreckers (Darin Corbin & Bucky Collins) are in action on Friday night, but Mikey is noticeably absent. In his steed, Freelance Wrestling veteran Kenny Sutra, a former Freelance Tag Team Champion, will be joining the duo in 6-man tag team action. One third of The Carnies, Tripp Cassidy, leads the other squad that also features Indiana indie veteran Ace Perry, of IWA Mid South, AAW, PCW and others, as well as a newer face on the scene in Levi Everett.
Kobe Durst vs. Robert Anthony vs. Alex Zayne
Canada’s Kobe Durst has become a legitimate threat in the Midwest of late, where he’s become a regular force in Freelance, Glory Pro, and Black Label Pro (where he’s the current BLP Heavyweight Champion). In a triple threat match, he’ll be facing against former Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) World Champion Robert Anthony (aka Egotistico Fantastico), as well as a man who was arguably the breakout star of this Thursday’s Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) BACKYARD event, Alex Zayne. This could be the sleeper match of the whole night.
Space Pirates (Shane Sabre & Space Monkey) vs. Maine State Posse (Aiden Aggro & DangerKid)
Much like their Alpha-1 cohort Kobe Durst, Canada’s Space Pirates – the eclectic duo of Shane Sabre and Space Monkey – are also tearing up the Midwest, as former BLP Tag Team Champions, and challenging in Glory Pro, Warrior Wrestling, Freelance and more. They face one of the best tag teams out of New England in Main State Posse. Aiden Aggro & Danger Kid are gearing up for this tag team showdown (third member Alexander Lee is in action elsewhere on the card), which should be a classic.
GPA & Nas vs. Craig Mitchell & ??
The feud between GPA and Craig Mitchell continues, but this time in tag team action. Back in May, GPA defeated Mitchell for the Freelance Underground Championship, and since then, the two have engaged in an all out war. At Freelance vs. The World last month, Craig Mitchell defeated GPA in the start of a Best out of Five series, but on Friday, they are heading into battle with back-up. GPA has selected former Freelance Wrestling Tag Team Champion Tony Nas as his partner, but Mitchell’s partner remains a mystery. But one thing is for certain, this war is far from over.
Freelance Wrestling Legacy Championship: Eye Candy Elliott (c) vs. EFFY
Eye Candy Elliott shocked everyone at Freelance vs The World last month when he won the inaugural Freelance Legacy Championship in a 6-way match featuring a slew of veterans such as Gringo Loco and Thunder Rosa. But he’s making his first title defense on Friday night against EFFY in what should be a banger. EFFY has long been a cult favorite on the indie scene and is finally breaking out, as more people are seeing just what he can do. Look for big things for both men as 2019 continues.
