This past Saturday night saw Defiant Wrestling head to the Manchester Academy for No Regrets, one of the biggest events of their calendar year. With five additional contests throughout the evening, the night was rounded off by the third annual No Regrets Rumble Match, a match that has provided some hefty surprises the previous two years. And one of the biggest was the ascension of David Starr from “Nearly Man” to #1 Contender.

In this year’s content, we already knew who numbers one and thirty would be following David Starr‘s victory over Gabriel Kidd in the show’s opening bout. So, with The Product being the final man to enter the fray, the odds were actually in his favour for once. By the time his music played, Kidd had already been in the match for around about an hour, putting in an Oscar-worthy performance of 75 minutes 14 seconds.
David Starr Wins 2019 Defiant No Regrets Rumble
En-route to making it to the final four, Starr managed to toss out Nathan Cruz, Man Like Dereiss, and Defiant debutant Myles Kayman. This resulted in a final four of Starr, Kidd, Joe Hendry, and a former two-time winner in the form of Internet Champion Martin Kirby. Hendry eliminated Kirby, Kidd eliminated Hendry, and then in quite the emotional moment, Starr delivered a piledriver to drive Kidd’s head into the ring apron to be crowned the 2019 No Regrets Rumble winner. The roof blew off the Manchester Academy when Starr’s music hit as it was unclear if his or Gabe’s feet had hit the floor first but when that upbeat tune started, a sigh of relief could be heard.
For once in his Defiant career, David Starr had won the big one. No longer will he be referred to as The Nearly Man, but rather the number one contender to the Defiant World Championship. He’s got a tough test ahead of him on June 29th when he once again challenges Rampage, especially now that the big man has Rory Coyle watching his back. Can Starr go all the way and leave Newcastle that night as our new champion?
