One of WWE’s most anticipated signings, of former 2x IMPACT World Champion Ethan Carter III (or better known simply as EC3), has been somewhat of a head-scratcher. He was showcased, but not necessarily pushed, during a tenure with NXT, but most believed he was just being rushed through NXT to get up to speed on WWE production (having previously worked with them from 2009 through 2013). After less than a year in NXT, he was announced as joining Raw or SmackDown Live late last year. He’s made his appearances, in odd backstage segments, but so far his entire run on the “main roster” has been in losses on Main Event, facing the likes of Apollo Crews, Tyler Breeze and Tye Dillinger. And while he’s at a losing record yet on Main Event (despite what some may say), he’s not setting the WWE Universe on fire.
But in a match taped for this week’s edition of Main Event, EC3 came out in front of the Brooklyn audience and was accompanied by a new manager. Well, to be completely accurate, it was with an old friend. His new manager is 205 Live General Manager Drew Maverick, who most recently guided the Authors of Pain to the Raw Tag Team titles. But IMPACT watchers will remember a time in TNA when Maverick, then known as Rockstar Spud, and EC3 were a duo who ran the company. As his nefarious little sidekick, Rockstar Spud went from EC3’s lackey to one of his fiercest rivals, in a tale reminiscent of “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase and Virgil.

If that wasn’t enough, EC3’s opponent was the televised return of former Wyatt Family member and Bludgeon Brother Luke Harper. Harper made his official return at WrestleMania 35 in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, although he taped a match at Worlds Collide at WWE Axxess over the weekend in a banger against NXT’s Dominik Dijakovic (former indie star Donovan Dijak).
