One of the big pieces of news out of Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble was the return of Half Time Heat, a special broadcast of WWE programming presented during the half time portion of the Super Bowl. The program returns this coming Sunday with a special NXT Showcase, featuring Aleister Black, Velveteen Dream and Ricochet taking on the trio of NXT Champion Tomasso Ciampa, NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano and Undisputed Era‘s Adam Cole. Shawn Michaels announced the event during the Royal Rumble Kick-Off Show panel, following a post-TakeOver altercation involving all six men.
It marks the return of Half Time Heat for the first time since 2000, when “Stone Cold” Steve Austin appeared for an exclusive interview to update his neck surgery progress. It was the second event, following 1999’s Half Time Heat that featured an empty arena match for the WWE World Championship between The Rock and challenger Mankind, that saw Mankind win his second World title in the WWE. Half Time Heat was a special event tied in with WWE’s regular Sunday night program, Sunday Night Heat, that ran from 1998 until 2008.
A high octane match up instead of Maroon 5? I think Tomasso Ciampa said it best…
