In 2016, during the WWE’s Cruiserweight Classic, one of the most heartwarming moments came after a match between NJPW’s Kota Ibushi and Cedric Alexander (which Ibushi won) the Full Sail University crowd began to chant “PLEASE SIGN CEDRIC!”, which brought Alexander to tears and NXT head honcho Triple H out from behind the curtains. Triple H appeased the crowd by agreeing with them, Cedric was signed and is the current reigning WWE Cruiserweight Champion.
Well tonight at the second night of tapings for this year’s Mae Young Classic, history may have repeated itself. According to fans in attendance, at the end of a random mid-tournament tag team match – that should be noted, didn’t feature Mia Yim – a “PLEASE SIGN MIA” chant broke out and infectiously took over Full Sail University.

Much like what happened after the Cedric chants, Triple H came out to address the audience about Tegan Nox’ injury and was immediately hit with the Mia chants once again. To that, Triple H responded with “OK.”

Mia Yim has become one of the most popular wrestlers on the indie circuit, following her decision to depart Impact Wrestling in early 2017. The former Impact Knockout Champion (then known as Jade) has also been a regular with SHIMMER since 2010 as well as with Shine, Beyond Wrestling, Queens of Combat (QOC), Stardom, Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), RISE Wrestling, and many more global outfits. She’s also a former Shine Champion and Tag Team Champion, as well as a Queen of Southside Champion with the UK’s Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE).
Last year at the inaugural Mae Young Classic, she had a good showing, beating Riott Squad’s Sarah Logan in the opening round, before facing defeat by eventual finalist Shayna Baszler in the second round. Many assumed was Yim was a lock to get signed, but she was hit by a leg injury shortly after that kept her out of the ring from December of last year until April of 2018. But she’s worked hard in her return, including facing the likes of Keith Lee and Matt Riddle, and is back for the Mae Young Classic II. And by the sounds of it, Triple H wants to keep her around a little bit longer.
