In a story today out of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, a 7-year old boy suffering from a rare case of Muscular Dystrophy was put on the path to meet his hero, WWE’s John Cena, and it came from an unlikely source – Impact Wrestling Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore.
The started a few days ago, when Sabrina Ginnasio, the aunt of the sick child, Michael Ginnasio, posted a plea for help on her Facebook page, requesting assistance from Social Media in getting her story heard. Her son suffered from a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy but was a die hard wrestling fan. So she wanted him to get a chance to meet his hero, John Cena, the all-time leader in Make A Wish visits. In only a few days, the post went viral.
Enter Windsor’s own Scott D’Amore, the Executive Vice President of Impact Wrestling, and part of Impact Wrestling’s resurgence in the past few months. In an interview with CTV News Windsor, it was revealed that upon learning of Michael’s story, he called in a few favours and got backstage tickets for Michael and his family for next Monday’s Raw, in order to get a chance to meet up with John Cena. As D’Amore told CTV News, “(w)e get an opportunity – and sometimes we forget this in our industry of entertainers – we get an opportunity to not just do something that we love but also touch people’s lives.” Ginnasio was also in attendance at this past Saturday’s Impact Wrestling and BCW co-production for the Impact One Night Only: March Breakdown taping in Michael’s hometown of Windsor.
CTV News Windsor reached out to the WWE, who was going to be in Detroit, Michigan this coming Monday for Monday Night Raw (Windsor is only five minutes across the Detroit River), and while the WWE acknowledged that Michael Ginnasio indeed qualified for the WWE’s Make A Wish program, that he was already booked that night for a Wish granting, but that they would put him in the planner for the next time they came through Detroit. But thanks to Impact Wrestling’s Scott D’Amore, Ginnasio may still get the chance to meet Cena when he’s backstage, as well as many more of his WWE heroes.
