In a strange twist to the ongoing situation revolving around former WWE Superstar Rich Swann, the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion announced on Twitter today that following his current stretch of indie bookings, he will be retiring from professional wrestling.

It’s been a tumultuous past few months for Rich Swann, who was arrested on December 9, 2017 on suspicion of domestic violence against his real life wife, indie wrestler Su Yung, following an indie event that Su Yung had appeared at. It was alleged that the two had gotten into an argument over her match, which resulted in Su Yung fleeing the couple’s car on the freeway and ending with Swann allegedly forcibly restraining and dragging Su Yung back to the car. The following day, on December 10, the WWE suspended Swann while the investigation was begun by local authorities. Despite having all charges dropped on January 25, 2018, Swann and the WWE mutually agreed to part ways on February 15. His final WWE match was December 5, 2017 against Tony Nese on 205 Live.
The 27-year old Swann has been wrestling for a decade, debuting in 2008. He was an early star for CZW starting in 2009 and in 2011 began working with Dragon Gate in Japan. He also worked for such promotions as EVOLVE, PWG, Full Impact Pro, Smash Wrestling and others, before signing with the WWE in 2015 and starting with the NXT brand. The following year, he was a participant in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, before transitioning to the main roster as part of Raw‘s Cruiserweight Division and subsequently appearing on 205 Live. In November of 2016, he defeated Brian Kendrick for the WWE Cruiserweight title and held it for 61 days before losing it to Neville at the 2017 Royal Rumble.
