WrestleMania 41: Why a Fatal 4-Way for the Intercontinental Title Works

WrestleMania 41: Why a Fatal 4-Way for the Intercontinental Title Works

The paths of WWE Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker, Penta, Dirty Dom Mysterio, and Finn Bálor continue to converge with a tag team match on the March 31 episode of Raw. The mid-card has presented plenty of options for title defenses in recent months, with Breakker recently defending against Sheamus and Ludwig Kaiser, as well as Bálor earlier this month. Promos with the aforementioned Penta and AJ Styles have also hinted at future matches and feuds as WrestleMania 41 approaches.

Penta’s stock continues to grow, as he remained unpinned since making his debut in January (until March 31). Conversely, The Judgment Day’s male members struggle for relevance as they continue to be outshone by the successes of Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez – the only titleholders in their stable.

A tag team match against the reigning champion Breakker and his strongest rival Penta presents an opportunity for Bálor and Dirty Dom to stake their claim with an Intercontinental title match yet to be set in stone. Should they emerge victorious, Bálor and or Dom will have a pretty strong case for challenging Breakker at WrestleMania 41.

However, a fatal 4-way presents a litany of storyline threads for WWE Creative. As well as being an exciting prospect, the future narrative options stemming from the match could be very rewarding.

Win or Lose, It’s All Positive for Bron Breakker

Breakker has more than proven himself a valuable asset to WWE with his two Intercontinental Championship reigns. He has maintained the title’s value following Gunther’s record-breaking run, as well as transitioning from NXT talent to a main roster star with top-tier potential.

Should Breakker successfully defend his title at WrestleMania 41, it’ll be just more momentum as he looks to confront bigger stars in the future. If he loses, Breakker can begin a gradual ascent to the big leagues in the latter half of 2025. It might just free him up to face another superstar known for their devastating spears.

A Chance to Cash in on Penta’s Popularity at WrestleMania 41

Since his arrival at the start of the year, Penta has delivered on his hype again and again. WWE looks like they’ve found their successor to Rey Mysterio but, refreshingly, he is a twist on the squeaky clean image of the company’s premier Luchador.

Winning his first title on his WrestleMania debut would cap off a dream start for Penta, not to mention capitalizing on his popularity. For a superstar who should be looking to lead the company’s Luchador contingent, it’s crucial that WWE puts a belt around his waist sooner or later.

With a mid-card title and a WrestleMania win on his CV, like Breakker, Penta can begin to think about challenging the top tier.

Dominik Mysterio Betraying Finn Balor?

It’s a guarantee that the fatal 4-way format will deliver a clash between The Judgment Day stablemates. Recent tensions have already suggested that Liv Morgan is playing the Yoko Ono role in the new look Judgment Day. Additionally, Dominik Mysterio has taken on more responsibility in trying to reverse the fortunes of the struggling faction, bringing into question Bálor’s position in the stable.

However, as tensions between Mysterio and the disgruntled Bálor continue to simmer, it remains to be seen how deep their loyalties lie when gold is on the line. If Mysterio betrays Bálor, it will only strengthen his heel status and oust the latter from the stable.

At rock bottom, expelled from The Judgment Day, it might be the last straw for Bálor – and possibly an opportunity to revive his fabled demon gimmick. It would be a great way to reestablish Bálor’s popularity.

As for Mysterio, a main roster title would be a great way to reward his acclaimed heel run on Raw. Mysterio continues to take his deceitful antics to new heights, and perhaps the final step in his heel journey would be claiming the Intercontinental Championship at the expense of his long-time ally.

This could open the floor for a feud with Penta – whom Mysterio had already tried to recruit for The Judgment Day. Naturally, it could provide the basis for a fascinating feud with Bálor, allowing the latter to adopt a tweener status and gain some much-needed momentum.
