What Does the Future Hold for Austin Theory in WWE?

What Does the Future Hold for Austin Theory in WWE?

If you go back to early 2022, it was clear that Austin Theory was a big part of the future of WWE. That summer, he won the Money in the Bank briefcase and became the United States Champion. However, his stock has fallen since then.

His association with Grayson Waller over the past year and a half has been filled with highs and lows. They were WWE Tag Team Champions last summer, but constant infighting has plagued the team. On the March 24, 2025 episode of Monday Night Raw, they lost to the Usos after Jey demolished Theory in 30 seconds the previous week.

Fans are convinced that he is approaching jobber status, which is a hard fall from where he was a few years ago. Is Austin Theory firmly in the mid to lower part of the card, or can he climb back to the heights he reached before?

Austin Theory is an Unfortunate Victim of the Roster Shuffle

In pro sports, three years isn’t really a long time. It’s the length of a standard entry-level contract in hockey, while a rookie contract in football is four years. However, professional wrestling is different.

There’s no off-season, with people constantly coming in, leaving, and getting released. That means the card and the wrestlers’ standings are always changing. Lots of people have been brought in since Austin Theory’s breakout summer.

Andrade, Braun Strowman, and CM Punk came back from being away from the company. Randy Orton returned from a career-threatening injury. Bron Breakker and Carmelo Hayes came up from NXT to much fanfare.

Unfortunately, some people get pushed down the card because of new options that are available. He might not be getting released anytime soon, but WWE obviously wants to push other people in the singles division other than Austin Theory.

His Partnership with Grayson Waller is Holding Him Back

The past couple of months have been frustrating for fans of Theory. He’s been caught in a never-ending cycle with his tag partner, Grayson Waller. They lose a match, tease tension, then get back on the same page. The same thing has been happening for a while now.

If Theory wants to break back into the singles division, he has to do the thing that’s been teased several times. Turning on Waller and remembering that he is an amazing singles wrestler could be the key to getting the Theory of a couple of years ago back.

They’re waiting for the specific time for that to happen so it can be the most effective story-wise. Even if Waller attacks him instead, Theory gets put in a red-hot feud. The breakup of A-Town Down Under could be the start of a revitalized Austin Theory in the singles division.

The Next Step in Austin Theory’s Story Will Tell Fans a Lot

Austin Theory’s booking has been a hot topic online over the past couple of weeks. If he was a singles wrestler getting the beat down from two weeks ago, the panic would be understandable. However, he’s in a tag team with someone that he doesn’t exactly get along with.

There’s still a way for him to get back to his winning ways. When WWE decides to split him and Waller up, that will be the true test of what his future holds. Could they be right in his treatment, or will he prove that he can hold his own in the singles division?

There are a lot of wild takes going around. Yes, he isn’t the same guy from years ago, but the losses are part of his current storyline. It’s clear that the next couple of months will be instrumental in deciding Austin Theory’s future as a WWE wrestler.
