Alex Hammerstone Announces Departure From TNA

On March 7th on X (Twitter), Alex Hammerstone announced his departure from TNA.

Hammerstone signed with TNA on 29th February 2024 after being a standout as the World Heavyweight Champion for Major League Wrestling. His run as the company’s top face started when he defeated one of WWE’s current top prospects, Jacob Fatu.

Prior to signing with TNA, Hammerstone lost to the former TNA World Champion, Josh Alexander, at Hard to Kill in January 2024. Hammerstone would have a series of matches with Alexander, but a knee injury put Hammerstone on the shelf. After successful surgery, Hammerstone returned at Slamiversary.

What’s Next for Alex Hammerstone?

In the short term, Hammerstone’s TNA run did not live up to the success nor the presentation of his MLW run. However, being in TNA gave fans and those in the industry a chance to examine his various talents as a performer. It was November two years ago when I profiled and explained what makes Hammerstone a modern throwback to the time of wrestlers of the golden 80s.

Returning to the free agency market, there are various possibilities on the indy scene. GCW, where Hammerstone has competed before, continues to go to new markets. The two major North American wrestling promotions may also have an interest in Hammerstone’s talents.

First, Hammerstone competed on WWE NXT, facing current NXT Champion Oba Femi on September 10th. Also, former colleagues of Hammerstone have also been signed through WWE’s ID system, including former MLW stablemate Zayda Steel.

We’ve profiled the first WWE ID signee, Steel, here. Also, Hammerstone does have another former stable, MJF, in AEW.

MJF told Fightful in a 2022 interview:

“If Alex Hammerstone was on a big platform like All Elite Wrestling, he would be a huge get… I think he’s an incredible talent, has been for a long time.

MJF, Fightful.
