For the past few months, Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe have had a heated rivalry with each other. They had a match at the 2300 Arena, took part in a three-way match with Oba Femi at New Year’s Evil, and had a strap match at Vengeance Day. It seemed like their rivalry was over.
On the February 18, 2025 episode of NXT, Williams proved that wasn’t the case. After Thorpe pinned Andre Chase, he relished in his victory. That’s when Williams popped up onscreen in a video message.
He told Thorpe that he wasn’t finished with him and that he was being brought under with him. There is probably a lot of speculation as to what he meant by that. But, given the phrasing, it seems we are getting ready for an NXT Underground match.
Given how intense their feud has been, that’s exactly what needs to happen.
NXT Underground is Perfect for Intense Rivalries
If an NXT feud has gone so far that both wrestlers hate each other, there’s an outlet for them to let off some steam. An NXT Underground match is different than any other match on the brand. With no ropes, it combines professional wrestling with MMA.
You can only win by submission, knockout, or referee stoppage. Eddy Thorpe even competed in the very first match, defeating Damon Kemp. The match is much grittier and rougher than traditional wrestling matches, so you know things are going to go down.
It’s clear that Trick Williams still has an issue with Eddy Thorpe. After a brutal strap match, he still isn’t backing down from a fight.
He’s going to take it one step further, by challenging Thorpe to a match he’s very familiar with. Given the feelings between Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe, it seems like an NXT Underground match is inevitable.
Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe Can Both Benefit with a Win
Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe have both been in NXT for years but with different results. Williams has had success with Carmelo Hayes and becoming NXT Champion twice. Thorpe has been picking up wins but has been waiting for a chance to break out.
A win in an NXT Underground match can help both men. For Williams, it’s another feather in his cap filled with achievements.
He’s beaten some of the best wrestlers NXT had to offer while getting his theme music over with the crowd and Booker T. Winning in the Underground would strengthen his case for a main roster call-up.
With Thorpe, a win can prove that he belongs in the main event scene. He got an NXT championship match, but only after faking an attack on himself. Winning the match could prove to everyone he deserves to be put in more high profile matches.
This Match Will Be Anticipated by Everyone
If Trick Williams challenges Eddy Thorpe to an NXT Underground match, it will be well-received by the fans. Ever since the first match two years ago, the concept has been very popular.
It is a departure from a traditional wrestling match, which gets people talking. For everyone who wants a more MMA style in their wrestling, this is the match for them. Also, it’s only been done on a handful of occasions.
Only feuds that warrant this type of match have battled in the underground, ensuring that its novelty doesn’t wear off. Its uniqueness has definitely made the match’s conception a great decision by WWE. Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe have been battling each other for months.
Even after intense battles, they still want to go. Letting them fight in an NXT Underground match is the best way to take this feud to the next level.
