SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis made a huge announcement this past Friday. A WWE Women’s United States Championship was going to be coming to the company. It will present a great mid-card championship for the women’s roster and help establish some of the younger stars. Now that Aldis has made his announcement, it can only be assumed that his Raw counterpart, Adam Pierce, will make a similar one. to crown a WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. But who should be the first to carry the strap?
Whoever is the inaugural Women’s IC Champion will receive an immediate boost in booking, but who will it be? There are some intriguing options for Raw, which are listed below.
Raquel Rodriguez
Rodriguez has always had the potential but has yet to realize it. Through injuries or poor booking, she has yet to reach the main event level that many thought she should.
Her partnership with Liv Morgan has put her in the position to get back to the top of the card. She has the talent to do it, and she may now get the character development necessary. Being WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion would be a great first step in this development.
Raquel would be the perfect choice for the first Women’s IC Champion. She has the pedigree to make the title important right off the hop, and having the secondary title in a faction with the World Championship will only a lot more television time to the IC Championship.
It could be a win-win situation for WWE.
Bianca Belair/Jade Cargill
The Women’s Tag Champions can be included in the same conversation, as the reasoning behind one fits with the other.
Belair and Cargill have been good in their tag team and brought a bigger spotlight to the women’s division. However, both are much better off on their own, and it is long overdue for them to suffer from a breakup. A fight for the IC title is a great way to sew the seeds of discord.
Both women would be a great focal point for the mid-card division. Their huge names would bring instant recognition to the championship and provide a huge win for whoever took the strap from them.
Lyra Valkyria
Valkyria is a star in the making. She hasn’t been given a ton on the main roster to work with, but she has consistently been solid in the ring. Lyra has shown that she has the potential to do something great and be a star in the company.
Having her work her babyface character on her way to winning the Intercontinental Championship would be a huge moment. The title could use a great story to start its lineage, and Valkyria beating the odds on her way to a tournament victory is a wonderful way to achieve this.
Nikki Cross
Cross has always been one of the more intriguing characters on the roster. Her transition from sinister crazy woman to wannabe superhero shouldn’t have worked, but through her talent and skill, it became an endearing one.
She became incredibly popular and was rewarded with a World Championship run.
Her new role in the Wyatt Sicks has been ok so far, but the group needs a boost. They have been stagnant since their hot debut, and championship being brought into the fold may be exactly what they need.
It would give the group a bigger role on Monday Night Raw. It would also give this potential future WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion a hot start behind a popular wrestler.
IYO SKY
SKY has been a fantastic piece in the women’s division puzzle. Her hot start led her to a Money in the Bank win and a huge pop for her cash-in. She proceeded to lead Damage Control and has been one of the best wrestlers on the roster.
Iyo has been on a tag team with Kairi Sane, and while they have been great, she hasn’t reached the heights that she enjoyed as a singles star. Now is the perfect time for her to abandon her tag career for the glory of an Intercontinental Championship victory.
Sky would be a superb first choice. She has the championship pedigree to lend an air of legitimacy to the IC title. There is no doubt that she would be able to step into the ring and make the potential new championship the workhorse title of the WWE.
