NXT’s TV Rating Will Remain TV-PG

NXT's TV Rating Will Remain TV-PG Despite Rumors of TV-14 Switch

WWE’s NXT brand, which is set to make a highly anticipated move to The CW network this coming week, will not be shifting from its current TV-PG rating to TV-14. This is despite widespread rumors and an initial listing on The CW’s schedule indicating otherwise, Last Word on Sports has learned.

In an exclusive statement provided by a representative from The CW, we can confirm that the shows will remain the same on the whole and were told that “nothing about the show/content is changing.” Due to this, they would be “keeping the rating the same as it has always been.”

The clarification comes in response to growing speculation among wrestling fans and media outlets that NXT’s transition from cable (USA Network) to broadcast television would prompt a shift to the TV-14 rating, allowing for more mature content in contrast with WWE’s main roster programs, like Raw and SmackDown. The rumors were further fueled when a TV-14 rating appeared on the network’s initial schedule for NXT.

However, The CW’s confirmation now puts those rumors to rest, affirming that NXT will maintain its family-friendly programming style, consistent with the TV-PG rating it has held for much of its tenure on USA Network. As NXT continues its evolution as a major WWE brand, its shift to The CW represents an opportunity for greater mainstream exposure.

Still, the decision to keep the TV-PG rating signals that WWE and The CW are committed to appealing to a broad audience as the show settles into its new broadcast home. Fans eager for a more edgy, adult-oriented NXT product will have to wait, as it appears that, for now, the developmental brand will stick to its current approach.

NXT‘s debut on The CW is scheduled for October 1st where fans can expect the usual high-energy NXT action alongside a rare appearance from CM Punk in a special guest referee role for the scheduled NXT Championship main event between Ethan Page and Trick Williams.
