Preview: WWE SmackDown (2/16/24) – Roman Reigns and The Rock Make Their Presence Felt

A WWE SmackDown graphic promoting the return of Roman Reigns and The Rock.

Suffice it to say, this has been one of the most exciting and unpredictable roads to the “Grandest Stage of them All” the WWE Universe has ever witnessed, and WWE SmackDown this week will only add fuel to the fire.

However, before that, the promotion is set to take Perth, Australia by storm for the WWE Elimination Chamber, where everyone will have a clearer and bigger picture of WWE WrestleMania 40 once the event is all said and done.

On this week’s WWE SmackDown, the remaining spots for the respective men’s and women’s Chamber matches will be finalized, with both winners advancing to WrestleMania to face WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and the victor of the WWE Women’s World Championship Title match between Rhea Ripley and Nia Jax.

Plus, ‘The Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns and ‘The Great One’ The Rock get down to business on SmackDown. When you thought it couldn’t get any more exciting in the WWE, it does. With all that out of the way, here’s a preview of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Let’s run it down.

Full WWE SmackDown Match Card:

  • Roman Reigns & The Rock Return
  • Men’s Elimination Chamber – Qualifying Match: Kevin Owens vs. Dominik Mysterio
  • Men’s Elimination Chamber – Qualifying Match: Logan Paul vs. The Miz

An Expressway to WrestleMania XL

The 2024 iteration of Elimination Chamber is looking like a ‘can’t miss’ show as the weeks go by. The primary reason for this is both the Women’s and Men’s Elimination Chamber Matches. Both bouts have high stakes as the winners will go on to WrestleMania and challenge for the WWE Women’s World and World Heavyweight Titles, respectively.

For both contests, two slots remain. With competitors like Logan PaulKevin OwensThe MizDominik MysterioNaomiShotziZelina Vega, and Tiffany Stratton, a path to Perth is only one win away.

Who will punch their ticket and enter the Chambers for a shot at being the number one contender?

The Arrival of the Anoa’i Family

The WWE WrestleMania XL Kick-Off show was one for the books, and it was extremely tense, to say the least. At the end of the event, it seemed like The Rock vs. Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship was set in stone, with both locking arms and showing each other some much-deserved respect.

However, this year’s Royal Rumble winner the ‘American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes shocked everyone before the night was over. Rhodes was no longer going to be denied his right to main event the ‘Showcase of the Immortals’ for the 2nd year in a row.

He will not stand idly by as he sees his dreams of ‘finishing the story’ escape his grasp once again. With the WWE Universe firmly behind him and a chorus of “#WeWantCody” showering the venue, Cody exclaimed that he would be main-eventing WrestleMania against Roman Reigns for the gold.

Both Reigns and Rock we’re clearly irate by these developments, with the ‘Brahma Bull’ imploring Triple H to ‘fix this.’ Unfortunately for them, ‘The Game’ came to his own decision. He is the authority, and he stands by the decision of the Royal Rumble winner, making Rhodes vs. Reigns II official…or is it?

This Friday night, Roman Reigns and The Rock will take over WWE SmackDown. What do the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and the ‘Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment’ have to say about all this? Find out and more on one of the most exciting SmackDowns in recent memory only on Fox!
