Preview: WWE — Backlash (5/6/23)

Damian Priest vs. Bad Bunny | WWE Backlash

WWE Backlash is the first Premium Live Event since WrestleMania and the card reflects it. It’s also the final show of these current rosters before the changes from the WWE Draft go into play. If you look up and down the card, there’s no denying there are a lot of fresh matchups with the women’s title matches jumping out the most. With the World Heavyweight Championship now back in play, Saturday night will be all about gaining momentum for those who will be on the Raw roster come Monday.

Bad Bunny wrestling in Puerto Rico. Feels almost too perfect to be true but here we are. And to take that a step further, it’ll be against the man he teamed with in his first-ever match — Damian Priest — and it will be a San Juan Street Fight. There’s no doubt that the crowd in Puerto Rico will be going crazy for this match on Saturday night but in terms of figuring out who will win, it’ll come down to how much help the Latino World Order can offer Bad Bunny to fight off the attacks The Judgement Day certainly have planned.

Expect this match to be chaotic, crazy, and an overall good time as world-famous recording artist Bad Bunny continues to live his dream as a pro wrestler with the first singles match of his career.

Prediction: Bad Bunny

Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar: A Must-Win For ‘The American Nightmare’

Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar | WWE Backlash

Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar for the first time ever. It almost feels like Rhodes, not Roman Reigns, was the man to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship with him being set to main event the first PLE following WrestleMania but that is not the case. Instead, the story remains unfinished and there is a big roadblock in the way in the form of Lesnar.

One night after the biggest loss of his career, Rhodes was savagely beaten down by “The Beast” after Lesnar had said he’d team with Rhodes against Reigns and Solo Sikoa. Rhodes, as a result, spent weeks having to recover from the destruction of Lesnar and has been a man possessed since then.

The most telling words of “The American Nightmare” on Monday were that he needs to win this match. Lesnar doesn’t need it but he does. If not, he goes to the back of the line, and finishing the story no longer has a chance to have a proper ending. There’s no stipulation to this match as of this writing and perhaps there won’t be by the time the bell rings, but for Rhodes to overcome Lesnar who has the edge to him he hasn’t had in a long time, he’s going to need that spirit he had at Hell in a Cell last year.

If he can, then Rhodes will stay in the hunt for whichever title he chooses — even if Reigns and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship is over on SmackDown for good. He won’t be stopped.

Prediction: Cody Rhodes
