NXT Women’s Championship Declared Vacant, New Champion To Be Crowned

Roxanne Perez holding the NXT Women's Championship

Last week at NXT’s Roadblock edition of their weekly programming saw NXT Champion, Roxanne Perez successfully defended her championship against Meiko Satomura in a hard-hitting affair that saw the champion pass out from what seemed to be exhaustion. Perez was carted out of the arena via EMTs, NXT General Manager Shawn Michaels, and NXT Color Commentator Booker T.

As announced via Twitter on Tuesday at 5:24 EST by Shawn Michaels, “As of Friday Morning Roxanne Perez was discharged from the hospital. However after numerous tests Roxanne’s health is still in question. With Stand and Deliver in less than three weeks I have the obligation to announce we possibly have to crown a New NXT Women’s Champion. Starting tonight there will be a series of qualifying matches with the winners advancing to Stand and Deliver to compete to become the NXT Women’s Champion in a Ladder Match.”

As of today, Roxanne Perez’s reign ends at 91 days, marking the third shortest reign in NXT history. Perez defeated then-champion and former Toxic Attraction leader, Mandy Rose ending the former NXT/WWE Superstar’s reign at 413 days, which would be Rose’s last appearance under the WWE umbrella due to issues regarding a pay site and photos that Rose was taking. Perez would have two successful defenses of her championship with the first happening at Vengeance Day pinning Jacy Jayne in a triple-threat match involving Gigi Dolin and her recent win against the aforementioned Meiko Satomura. It’s also noted that Roxanne Perez was the second youngest NXT women’s champion of all time (21 Years and 38 Days) winning the title a month after turning 21 years of age.
