The trio was the inaugural champions, winning the belts at All Out 2022. They were stripped of the titles following the backstage brawl that reportedly took place following the All Out media scrum. The trio returned at Full Gear in a match against Death Triangle but were not able to recapture the titles from Death Triangle. The use of the ring bell hammer in the match set up this best-of-seven series. The hammer was a recurring theme throughout the matches that included a falls count anywhere and a no-disqualification match.
The seventh and deciding match was an Escalera de la Muerte match that saw The Elite regain the titles. This was done at the Forum in Los Angelos which is near where the Young Bucks got their start in Rancho Cucamonga California.
This adds to the eventful week for Kenny Omega. Last week he became the new IWGP United States Champion at Wrestle Kingdom 17 and won a tag team match with Kazuchika Okada at New Years Dash.
