In an exclusive interview with “The Ringer“, who has a working relationship with WWE, Paul Levesque announced today that Survivor Series this year will feature 2 War Games matches for the first time in the event’s history. The two-ringed cage match of NWA and WCW fame was brought back in 2017 for NXT, and is mainly used to end or advance multiple heated rivalries, with 2 teams of 5 battling each other within the cage to settle multiple scores at once. Fans have clamored for years for War Games to be incorporated with Survivor Series somehow, seeing as how they’re a perfect fit for each other, and Survivor Series has gotten somewhat repetitive lately. War Games is an interesting way to spice things up.
Levesque also revealed in the interview that the matches will not be RAW vs. SmackDown, but will be purely story-driven:
“We’ll have a men’s WarGames match and a women’s WarGames match. The tradition of the Survivor Series has ebbed and flowed and changed slightly over time, but this will be similar to that, this will not be Raw versus SmackDown. It will be much more story-line driven. I still look at it as a traditional component to Survivor Series in there because it’s large teams of people competing. We just upped the ante a little bit with WarGames and made it evolve.”
It is unclear if there will be a brand vs. brand match elsewhere on the card, or if they’re doing away with that concept altogether. Survivor Series: War Games this year will emanate from the TD Gardens, a place with a lot of history with the WWE, on November 26th, and will stream live on Peacock.
