WWE returns to the United Kingdom with a pay-per-view for the first time since 2003 with Clash at the Castle, hailing from Cardiff, Wales on Saturday. The show will also be nearly 30 years to the date that the UK hosted SummerSlam in 1992, where The British Bulldog defeated Bret Hart in the main event to become the Intercontinental Champion. A lot has changed since then within WWE but one thing is for certain — WWE has put together one of their best cards of the year for this show. The main event may very well be the biggest match of the year (and maybe in years) as the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will be on the line. Here’s a look at the WWE Clash at the Castle card and in-depth looks at two of the most important matches on the show.
WWE Clash at the Castle airs Saturday at 1 p.m. ET on Peacock
WWE Clash at the Castle: Full Card
- Edge & Rey Mysterio vs. The Judgement Day (Finn Balor & Damian Priest)
- Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Sheamus
- Matt Riddle vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins
- SmackDown Women’s Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Shayna Baszler
- Bianca Belair, Asuka & Alexa Bliss vs. Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai & IYO SKY)
- Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
WWE Clash at the Castle: A Look at the Show’s Most Important Matches
Damage CTRL Looks To Take Down The Raw Women’s Champion and Friends
Damage CTRL will teams as a trio for the very first time Saturday as they take on the joint forces of Asuka, Alexa Bliss, and Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. Damage CTRL made their initial mark at SummerSlam as Bayley returned to the WWE with friends IYO SKY and Dakota Kai joining her. Her goal? To take control of WWE. And that starts with winning the Raw Women’s Championship. Their plan suffered its first bump in the road on Raw this week as SKY and Kai lost in the finals of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament as Kai, who was not legally tagged in, was pinned by Aliyah to lose the match.
Of course, they’ll have a bone to pick there but this is the more important match for them. If they want to showcase their dominance and that they mean business, this is as much of a must-win as any. If Bayley wants to take control of WWE as she says, she will make sure her faction walks out with their first win together.
Prediction: Damage CTRL
The Biggest WWE Match in Years: Can Drew McIntyre Be The Man To Slay “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns?
“Perhaps the end is drawing near.”
I have previewed and covered Roman Reigns’ entire title reign. When he was just Universal Champion and now as he sits here as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Each defense has always left me saying “yeah, this is still Roman Reigns’ time on top.” I never wavered and never thought he would be dropping that title. But at Clash at the Castle, there’s a feeling that all may finally change in WWE. Drew McIntyre has worked his way to this moment for not months, but years. Yes, he won the 2020 Royal Rumble but it is well-documented that he never got his moment in front of the fans. Now as he returns to the UK to main event Clash at the Castle, it feels like this may finally be the day “The Tribal Chief” walks out of a show with no more world titles.
“The Scottish Warrior” has built himself up for greatness. The former “Chosen One” has had one of the most difficult roads to glory we’ve seen but ending the reign of Roman Reigns is as good a win as any. Reigns still has some stock in his run as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion but with how this has been built, there’s only one result that makes sense. It’s time for Drew McIntyre to stand tall and slay “The Tribal Chief.”
