Preview: WWE SmackDown (5/13/22) – WrestleMania Backlash Fallout

SmackDown WrestleMania Backlash Fallout

Friday the 13th has become a date synonymous with hard luck, misfortune and hockey masks. Whereas we may be safe from any machete wielding, hockey mask-wearing, undead (only from Part VI, of course – lay off me, nerds) creatures of death, SmackDown is sure to provide its viewers with a fair dose of hard luck and misfortune. That’s right, SmackDown is here once more! Charlotte Flair is out indefinitely with an injury; after weeks of rebuilding Lacey Evans as the triumphant babyface to save the SmackDown women’s division, she was sent to Raw and immediately switched to the heel disposition because, you know, reasons. Additionally, Roman Reigns looks set to be taking his world championships on vacation from June to September. What on earth is happening to SmackDown? That is for another article. For now, let’s preview the one match we have to preview for this week’s WrestleMania Backlash fallout edition of SmackDown.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Sasha Banks & Naomi vs. Natalya & Shayna Baszler

SmackDown WrestleMania Backlash Fallout

During a time when the SmackDown women’s division is being butchered by WWE creative, it sure is great (and by “great” we mean “bad”) that so much time is being given to a women’s tag team championship which, for the near entirety of its existence, has been ignored. Any of these four competitors would be a worthy opponent for newly crowned SmackDown Women’s Champion, Ronda Rousey. For now, it is difficult to think of many other contenders (unless Bayley returns, which might very well happen tonight) for the former UFC fighter. Tonight, at least, we will have a women’s tag team match which, if given the time it deserves, could be a competitive bout. Sasha Banks & Naomi take on Natalya & Shayna Baszler tonight.

Not Announced But Expected Tonight

– Maybe more on Roman Reigns’ future opponent? We are surely moving towards the inevitable Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns feud which, to the WWE’s credit, has had a good slow build.

– As mentioned previously, might we see Bayley return tonight? Lord knows the SmackDown women’s division needs more names (what happened to Xia Li?) so, hopefully, we can hear the great sound of “ding dong, hello!” again starting from tonight.
