OG Bullet Club Win 6-Man Gold at Road to Tokyo Dome

In a year that’s seen the ROH Bullet Club chapter (and Being The Elite cast) claim all the gold and the headlines in both ROH and NJPW, the Japanese chapter struck gold today at NJPW’s Road To Tokyo Dome event in Tokyo when Bad Luck Fale and the Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa) defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, EVIL and SANADA) to capture the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team titles.

Today’s victory for the “OG” of the Bullet Club marked the first gold for the Japanese (and founding) branch of Bullet Club since Guerillas of Destiny lost their iWGP Tag Team titles this past July. It also marks the Japanese side’s second reign as NEVER Openweight 6-Man champs, following Fale, Tonga and Yujiro Takahashi held the belts in early 2016.

The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) have held the titles twice since then, not to mention a year that saw the Being The Elite crew capture titles around the world, with Omega capturing the IWGP United States Championship, The Young Bucks winning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team, 2x ROH World Tag Team, Marty Scurll holding the IWGP Junior Heavyweight and ROH World Television, and Adam “Hangman” Page holding the ROH 6-Man Tag Team titles with the Young Bucks as well. Cody Rhodes also held World Championship gold in ROH, while Scurll did the same with Defiant (formerly WCPW). With The Elite drawing so much media attention from stunts with their YouTube show, the Hot Topic deals, and everything else, it was starting to appear like a rift was growing between the two sides of Bullet Club, with Fale and Tama being the most vocal about the Elite swaying from the Bullet Club’s original mission statement. The Japanese chapter continues to dominate thanks to the influence of the Meng Dynasty (Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa and Leo Tonga are the sons of former WWE/WCW legend Haku/Meng, and Bad Luck Fale is Meng’s nephew), and with Chase Owens being ‘groomed’ to become a new Tongan perhaps it’s time for the Meng Dynasty to take back the Bullet Club with the same brutal tenacity that their father was so feared for.
