Ready to kick off the summer vibes, WWE NXT brings back the Great American Bash. The event is tomorrow, June 28th, the Sunday before the 4th of July weekend. It will be a history-making event for NXT, as it is their first PLE to air on the CW. I’m sure they have quite the show in store for their PLE TV debut.
Compared to last year’s Great American Bash, there are new top stars and new competitors. It feels like it’s an entirely new roster. The competitors who were new a year ago are now champions. But will they be able to retain those championships on Sunday? It seems that we are entering a new era of NXT. What will these stars bring to the table?

Former Partners Square Off

DarkState has been having issues as a team for months. For them, the solution was to get rid of Saquon Shugars. That came as a surprise to many because of how controlling Dion Lennox has been over the group. Ultimately, it was Lennox who pulled the trigger on removing Shugars from the group.
Last week, both men expressed how they truly feel about one another, and things got heated. Shugars pointed out how and why he was the glue to DarkState. If that is true, we will soon see the downfall of DarkState. Shugars was hurt by Lennox’s decision and is now going to show him what DarkState is missing out on. He pointed out that before joining NXT, he was an independent wrestler, unlike Lennox. This may play a factor in their match on Sunday, considering Shugars has more overall experience.
However, Shugars will likely encounter some obstacles in the match, such as the rest of DarkState: Cutler James and Osiris Griffin. Anytime there was a match against any member of DarkState, it would turn into a handicap match. Do you think that will happen this Sunday? Will Shugars be able to overcome DarkState?
Will the NXT Championship Become EVIL?
NXT General Manager, Robert Stone, announced that the NXT Championship match will kick off The Great American Bash on the CW. It will be Tony D’Angelo defending against Naraku. It has been an interesting buildup to this match, but it also happened fast, as Naraku only made his official NXT in-ring debut on May 12th, not even two months ago. It takes some stars years to get an NXT Championship opportunity, if they even get one.
Naraku has made it clear that he wants the championship and will do anything to get it. When signing the contract, Naraku struck D’Angelo with a fireball and hit him in the face. D’Angelo still returned to the ring with his face taped up and ready to take on Naraku. This shows how much the title means to both men. What will need to be done to put one of them away? Sunday will truly be a battle between the two, and they will make it a hard match to follow.
Who do you want to see walk out of Great American Bash with the NXT Championship? No matter who wins, it seems that Mason Rook has his eyes on the gold and is looking to be the next contender.
