A WWE WrestleMania 42 preview and match card for night 2, April 19, 2026.

Breaking Down Why Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi Should Have Headlined WrestleMania Night 1

We’re less than two weeks away from the most exciting weekend in the WWE calendar year. WrestleMania will take over Allegiant Stadium for two consecutive nights next weekend on April 18 and 19, respectively. Despite several shows remaining, the card for the show seems to have been confirmed.

WWE recently revealed the full card run-downs for Night One and Two. The first two matches of WrestleMania Saturday will stream live on ESPN2, while the first hour of Mania Sunday will feature on ESPN. Since the full breakdown was revealed, fans are now aware of the main event of Mania Saturday, which had been a topic of intense discussion.

Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton will close WrestleMania 42: Night One. However, many believe that Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi should have taken that spot. On that note, let’s delve into three reasons why Lesnar vs. Femi should have headlined Mania Saturday.

#3. Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi Has the Strongest Build Heading into WrestleMania 42

The Road to WrestleMania 42 has been pretty rocky and marred with controversial booking decisions. WWE has struggled to give fans compelling motives to tune in for the majority of the matches scheduled. On some occasions, they have made creative moves that have alienated audiences.

For example, Pat McAfee’s random insertion into the saga between Rhodes and Orton was heavily criticized. That said, the company has excelled in certain areas. Judging by crowd reactions and social media discussions, the WWE Universe is eagerly anticipating the dream match between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi.

The feud began with Lesnar issuing an open challenge. After Seth “Freakin” Rollins sent Paul Heyman to the hospital, the Beast returned to seek revenge. It felt as if WWE was going to go with Lesnar vs. Rollins, but out came Oba Femi to a thunderous ovation. Following a distraction from the Visionary, Femi hoisted Lesnar up and crushed him with the “Fall from Grace.”

The setup for their Mania match was epic, and the subsequent segments delivered as well. Femi has gotten the upper hand several times, which has helped elevate his credibility. RAW ended in chaos this week as officials pulled apart the Beast and the Ruler.

The build has been incredible, and fans are genuinely invested in Lesnar vs. Femi. Given the amount of creative effort that has gone into the program, it deserves the prestigious main-event slot.

#2.  This Could Be Brock Lesnar’s Final WrestleMania Match

At 48, Brock Lesnar is no spring chicken. The Beast Incarnate is at the twilight of his WWE career, and this may be his final run. Furthermore, he recently hinted that he wasn’t back for long. There have been whispers that Lesnar could retire at SummerSlam 2026.

Therefore, WrestleMania 42 could be the last time we see Lesnar compete at the Show of Shows. Although it isn’t a custom or tradition, WWE tends to give its biggest stars the main event spot in their final Mania outings. John Cena defeated Cody Rhodes in his final Mania match last year.

Shawn Michaels, Mr. WrestleMania himself, headlined Mania 26 with The Undertaker. The Beast Incarnate is considered one of the greatest combat sports athletes of his generation. Lesnar has done everything in this business, including several Mania main events to his name. As a tribute and mini farewell, WWE should have considered giving Lesnar the main event slot yet again.

#1. Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi Will Give WrestleMania Night One its Genuine Identity

Since 2020, WrestleMania has become a two-night event. However, it immediately became clear that Night Two was more important. The biggest storylines and the best matches were often reserved for Mania Sunday. However, WWE needs to change this mismatch by giving Night One a separate identity.

WrestleMania Sunday can be about conclusions, championships, and storytelling. Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk fits that dynamic perfectly.  Night One could be about physicality, impact, brutality, and unpredictability. Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi epitomizes the aforementioned themes that would give Mania Saturday its own identity.

Lesnar vs. Femi will give us a different main event. It will not be a storytelling classic, but a colossal fight between two of WWE’s biggest and baddest bulls. Furthermore, fans can’t discount the unpredictability factor.
