Results From AEW Dynamite Tonight (4/8/26)
United Empire meets the Death Riders
Awaiting Will Ospreay, Jon Moxley headed him off. The rest of the Death Riders swarmed upon Ospreay when a vehicle appeared. Out of it came Alex Windsor and NJPW’s United Empire. The two teams demolished each other en route to the ring. Windsor took on Marina Shafir, while Callum Newman took on PAC. Ospreay chased Moxley into the ring for a pounding. Members of both teams later filtered their violence to join them in the ring. Though Ospreay and HENARE were overwhelmed, the United Empire chased off the Death Riders, with Newman in particular getting his lick in. Ospreay proudly touted his team’s arrival and challenged the Death Riders in the main event.
Don Callis mourns Kyle Fletcher’s injury
Stating that Fletcher would be out for months, Callis stated he’d have a pivot that would blow fans’ minds. Speaking of pivots, Callis referenced the rivalry between Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita before announcing the latter in an upcoming trios match.
Don Callis Family (Mark Davis, Andrade El Idolo, & Konosuke Takeshita) defeated Bandido, Darby Allin, & Jack Perry
Idolo departed the trio in the opening as Perry dazed Davis with a Destroyer. Bandido and Allin moonsaulted onto Davis and Takeshita. Allin grabbed a microphone and demanded Idolo return to the ring. Idolo obliged, as a distraction so Takeshita could rock Allin with a double rolling suplex. Perry bowled over Takeshita and Davis with another moonsault. Idolo posed for a selfie with a woman, as usual, while his buddies continued to trash the opposition.
Bandido took on Takeshita and Davis simultaneously, with a powerful slam to the former. Davis, sturdy as he was, crumpled to a hurricanrana and enzuigiri. Idolo tripped up Perry on the apron, to which Allin replied with a tope dive into the commentary desk. Davis and Takeshita swung Allin like a human hammock into the timekeeper’s area. A particularly devastating piledriver courtesy of Davis led Perry to Idolo’s DM for the pinfall.
Post-match: Allin met Idolo in the middle of the ring, to which he pointed at the nearby AEW Dynasty sign, to which the latter responded with a low blow kick. Davis and Takeshita were set to destroy Perry, but the Young Bucks made the save. Avoiding an onslaught by the rest of the Family, the Bucks blasted Davis with a superkick. Kazuchika Okada tripped them up to save Takeshita. After that, Okada and Takeshita traded forearms with each other. The Rascalz and Bandido wiped out all of the Family.
(Idolo’s earlier retreat gave way to a scientific method in systematically picking apart the babyface team. Isolating them, one by one, was a smart story told.)
Lexy Nair asked Dr. Michael Sampson about Kenny Omega’s medical condition
Taking into account Omega’s diverticulitis and history of injuries in AEW, Nair asked Sampson how he feels as a medical professional. Sampson answered that he wasn’t worried, as Omega was cleared by not just him, but a surgeon as well.
Willow Nightingale (c) defeated Queen Aminata for the TBS Championship
Aminata surprised Nightingale with some heavy offense. She denied Nightingale entry to the ring, unleashing kicks and elbows. Nightingale grabbed retribution with chops, only to be tossed into the barricade. Hikaru Shida was repeatedly shown watching from an undisclosed distance. Nightingale decapitated Aminata with a lariat. The Queen rebounded with a running kick to flatten the champ. Chocolate Kisses from the challenger further dizzied the champ.
Nightingale at last gained a comeback with a backbreaker and a big dropkick. Outside, she delivered a rolling senton from the apron. Aminata fought back with an elbow strike. Attempting a Pounce, Nightingale instead met an elbow strike. The Queen’s Air Raid Crash nearly sent her to victory. Another Pounce by Nightingale preceded a Babe With the Powerbomb to retain her title.
(Certainly a big return for our Queen. Bringing the fight to Nightingale so intensely perfectly reintroduced her to audiences following her long, injury-induced absence.)
Chris Jericho addressed his return on April 1, The Demand interrupted
Carrying a purple clipboard, Jericho mentioned his roots in Ponoka, Alberta. Boasting his involvement in AEW’s creation, he acknowledged his highs and lows since joining the company. Before he could sign his contract renewal, The Demand interrupted him. Ricochet initiated things by decrying Canada as a country. Imploring Jericho not to re-sign, Ricochet hilariously added that the veteran’s tour with Fozzy may have gotten him his abs back. He reinforced his statement before Jericho could get himself hurt. Jericho retorted that Ricochet was bald and cared little for what he thought. Furthermore, he added that with his new contract, he could insert himself into a match at AEW Dynasty with an opponent of his choosing. Invoking his final WWE character, Jericho informed Ricochet that he had “just made the list.”
Don Callis implored Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada to get along
Requesting Takeshita and Okada to resolve their differences to take on the Young Bucks at AEW Dynasty in the name of Kyle Fletcher, his ask was soothed. They agreed, but only if they could face each other at AEW Double or Nothing. Comparing their relationship to Michael Jordan and Scotty Pippen in the NBA’s historic 1990s Chicago Bulls team, Callis watched in terror as Okada posited himself as Jordan.
Tomasso Ciampa defeated Mascara Dorada for the #1 spot at AEW Dynasty Casino Battle Royale
The pair of hungry contestants battled back and forth when the Psycho Killer clutched his arm after an attempted crossface. Ciampa gained composure after a knee strike. Dorada fired back with a tornillo. Back in the ring, Ciampa suffered a 450-Splash. He recovered with a backstabber. Dorada teetered back with a neckbreaker. Ciampa finished off Dorada with a running knee to earn the #1 spot at the Casino Battle Royale.
The Dogs assaulted the Conglomeration
Gabe Kidd, Clark Connors, and David Finlay took turns cutting a promo while kicking an already-down Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong.
Thekla addressed Jamie Hayter
Reminiscing on when she took out Hayter in her AEW debut, Thekla promised to make her the “dumbest b#tch dead.”
Christian Cage and Adam Copeland promo
Directing his vitriol to FTR, Copeland vowed to reinstate the “C&C Dynasty” in pro wrestling. Cage positioned himself as everyone’s father figure before making some R-rated comments about FTR’s mothers. FTR’s music played as they readied to ambush the veterans; Don Callis Family’s Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta took them on from behind. FTR sent Cage into Stokely Hathaway, while Beretta and Romero smashed Copeland with a steel chair. Hathaway speared Cage out of his boots. FTR and Don Callis Family continued to torment Cage.
Darby Allin desired to defeat Andrade El Idolo for an AEW Men’s World Championship opportunity
Seething backstage, Allin’s frustrations boiled amid his wish to one day win the AEW Men’s World Championship.
United Empire (Callum Newman, Will Ospreay, HENARE, Francesco Akira, & Alex Windsor) defeated Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia, PAC, & Marina Shafir) in a Chaos in Canada Match
Everyone paired off against their opponents. HENARE and Akira toppled Castagnoli, Garcia, and PAC with a ladder. With the ladder towering over everyone, Akira soared off of it to mow over the Death Riders. Newman and Ospreay dove over the top rope to blast Moxley and Castagnoli into the commentary desk. Positioning steel steps next to a wooden table, Ospreay and Newman sought to release a double brainbuster when Catagnoli equalized them. PAC, Castagnoli, and Garcia ran a train on Akira with no remorse. They proceeded to do the same to Newman.
Garcia choked Ospreay with a shirt while pummeling him with fists. All members of the Death Riders tried to run a train on HENARE, but he was too big and strong for them. Castagnoli ultimately subdued him, crashing him into a table with a vertical suplex. Ospreay unloaded elbows on Moxley, countered by a sleeper hold. Newman avenged a fiesty yet clobbered Akira when he deployed a rolling elbow. He and Ospreay nearly took Garcia and Moxley out for the pinfall with synchronized Oscutters. HENARE rescued Akira to send Castagnoli through a table. Ospreay and Newman also sent Moxley through a table. Twice, Akira failed to send Garcia through his table, yet still inflicted damage. With a Newman assist, Ospreay defeated Moxley with a Hidden Blade through a table in the ring.
(Seeing United Empire in semi-full force in AEW was so cool, and I’m glad we got to see it. Especially since this helps further an NJPW storyline.)
Kenny Omega spoke, MJF interrupted
Omega touted his accolades in the wrestling industry in front of Edmonton while admitting his emotional flaws in front of MJF’s chicanery. Believing AEW deserves a better champion, he felt it was not only his legacy he’d carry to the AEW Men’s World Championship match, but Canada’s legacy as well. He added that he felt better than ever, that the weaknesses he’d carried were now his strengths. Omega concluded his speech by saying this match would be MJF’s last defense.
The champion met Omega in the ring, reminding him that the year was 2026. Hinting that Omega’s time as a wrestler was coming into its twilight years, MJF asked what he’d say if his “100%” wasn’t enough to take the title from him. He culminated his response with his usual “better than you” routine. Omega asked that MJF honor the routine of shaking hands with challengers ahead of a big event. MJF grinned, extended his hand, retracted it, and pretended to depart before attempting a clothesline. Omega ducked it and elbowed him before stealing his Dynamite Diamond Ring. The Canadian then bade Canada adieu, good day, and good night.
(I dug this. Letting babyfaces be smarter than their opponents adds a lot to moments like these. I’m not sure if the Kenny we get at Dynasty will be a Belt Collector version or a post-diverticulitis-selling version, but this exchange left the segment with so much hype heading into April 12.)
Final Thoughts
The Chaos in Canada match was bonkers, and as a fan of Callum Newman, I was happy to see him get extra shine. Kenny Omega’s promo pumped me full of adrenaline. Also, Queen Aminata’s return paid off in spades, as she did the only thing she needed to do: put on a physical hoss fight with Willow.
Truthfully, this show centered on a huge chunk of Dynasty’s card and built them nicely. In fact, this show developed some brand new matches in one night in rather entertaining ways. The mixture of long-running stories and new ones gave the pay-per-view the intrigue it needed and more.
