WWE Survivor Series: WarGames took over San Diego’s Petco Park last Saturday. The PLE received a mixed reaction, but it will go down in history as one of the most historic editions. Petco Park bore witness to John Cena’s final PLE match against Dominik Mysterio.
It was also the first time Survivor Series was held outdoors in a stadium. As such, the show also had the highest attendance figure with more than 46,000 screaming WWE fans packed inside Petco Park. Nonetheless, Triple H and his creative team succeeded in dropping several teases that could potentially lead to blockbuster WrestleMania matches.
#4. Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk was subtly teased for WrestleMania 42
Among all the entries on this list, this one is the least likely to occur for several reasons. CM Punk began the Men’s WarGames match with Bron Breakker. Since the heels had one the WarGames advantage match, Drew McIntyre joined the fray next, leading to an extended 2on1 beatdown on Punk.
Fortunately, Punk received help from the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. Rhodes came in like a house on fire and took down the heels. However, he accidentally struck his partner with the elbow, causing Punk to bleed. The American Nightmare immediately apologized, and both champions carried on further like nothing ever happened.
WWE has heavily teased Punk vs. Rhodes several times. It is a blockbuster dream match that fans would love to see; however, given that both men are babyfaces and the current World Champions, a WrestleMania encounter seems unlikely right now.
#3. Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk (c) for the World Heavyweight Championship
A few days before Survivor Series: WarGames, Roman Reigns warned both Cody Rhodes and CM Punk of his intentions to reclaim World Championship gold. However, the OTC didn’t specify which title he was after, but it’s impossible to throw Reigns vs. Punk out of the door.
The closing moments of the Men’s WarGames match saw the OTC help Punk back to his feet. A fist bump followed this. Nonetheless, there was some lingering animosity in the air, and you could feel the tension between the two top stars. There is plenty of history between the Straight Edge Superstar and the OTC, and they could have their blowoff bout at WrestleMania 42.
#2. CM Punk (c) vs. Bron Breakker for the World Heavyweight Championship
The Men’s WarGames match was packed with established top stars like Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, and Brock Lesnar. Yet, despite the star power of the veterans, it was the upstart Bron Breakker who walked away with the pinfall victory.
The Unpredictable Badass obliterated Punk, who had just been assaulted by a mystery man, with a spine-jarring Spear to secure a massive pinfall victory. Pinning the World Heavyweight Champion makes him a top contender for Punk’s title, but WWE could extend their eventual title showdown till WrestleMania 42.

#1. Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes (c) for the WWE Championship
It seems as if Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns are inseparable. Their stories have become so intertwined that their characters seem incomplete without each other. WWE has been building towards Rhodes vs. Roman III, and the latest tease was dropped at Survivor Series: WarGames.
After the babyfaces lost the match, Reigns and Rhodes had a chilling staredown, which ended with the OTC telling the American Nightmare that this was the last time they had teamed together. Reigns is clearly gunning for Rhodes’ WWE Championship. The OTC has been on a redemption arc for the previous 2 years, which could end with one final clash against The American Nightmare at WrestleMania 42.
