Roman Reigns Vs. Dean Ambrose
The time had finally come. After 14 tournament matches, we were going to crown a new WWE Champion as the two former Shield brothers went at it. Fans couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen – expectations were high for this main event, as they should’ve been. Reigns sold the arm that Del Rio had injured earlier… but something didn’t feel right.
The match picked up a bit when Reigns hit a Spear for a nearfall. Then, Ambrose got a close nearfall of his own after hitting Dirty Deeds. The action continued with both men fighting near the corner… and Reigns speared Ambrose out of the corner for the win. Yes, as flat and as cold as it sounds. Nine short minute into a super normal wrestling match.
Roman Reigns was the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. WWE had finally put the top prize on their top babyface whether we liked it or not. It was inevitable after all, right? Little did we know what was about to happen…
MITB Cash-In: Roman Reigns Vs. Sheamus
Triple H came out to shake Roman Reigns’ hand, who speared the boss instead. The night was far from over though, as Sheamus proceeded to Brogue Kick the new champion before cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. Sheamus immediately covered Reigns, who kicked out at two.
Reigns had some gas left in the tank, but it was just a matter of time. Sheamus connected with a second Brogue Kick moments later, and that was it. Survivor Series 2015 went off the air with Sheamus holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt up high while Triple H hugged him.
This was the outcome after 15 tournament matches. The man who hadn’t won a televised singles match since the October 5 Raw(!) and had been eliminated in the first round was now the WWE Champion. Sheamus dropped the strap back to Reigns less than a month later despite forming The League of Nations, and it ultimately led to Triple H vs Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 32.
Deadly Games this was not!
