Mercedes Moné Eyeing More Gold in NJPW and Stardom?

With nine titles around her waist, shoulders, wrist, and neck, Mercedes Moné may need to start thinking about her next steps, especially if AEW’s resident CEO is planning on adding more championships to her résumé.

Moné currently holds belts from promotions all around the world, including AEW, RevPro, and CMLL, to name just a few. Her latest title triumph came just over two weeks ago at Global Wars UK, where she picked up Discovery Wrestling’s DW Women’s Championship to bring her one short of double figures. But for all of her hard work, Moné seems to be working smarter, not harder with her latest target title. Or should I say, titles.

All Eyes on Saya Kamitani and AZM?

Over the weekend, it was announced that two of Japanese wrestling’s most prominent stars would clash in a double title match at Korakuen Hall on September 27th. Saya Kamitani and AZM, both of STARDOM, will put their respective world championships on the line in a winner-takes-all encounter at the legendary Japanese venue in Tokyo.

Kamitani currently holds the World of STARDOM Championship, with her reign having just passed the 250-day mark. AZM is the current NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, having taken the title off Moné in a triple threat involving Mina Shirakawa at NJPW Resurgence in May.

When Mera Wrestling’s X account shared news of the titanic encounter, Mercedes Moné’s response outlined her intentions.

Responding with the eyeballs emoji, it was clear that Moné would be keeping one eye on each belt – no matter who they belong to, come September 27th. Considering that the CEO of AEW has been collecting belts like Thanos collects Infinity Stones, she will surely feel confident of beating either AZM or Kamitani. And with both belts on the line, it presents a unique opportunity for Moné to swoop in and claim two titles for the price of one.

It remains to be seen as to who she would prefer to face out of the two Japanese stars. The AEW star is 1-1 in her head-to-head with AZM, but she has yet to face Kamitani. Whilst Moné would love to exact revenge upon AZM and reclaim her NJPW title from her, the AEW TBS Champion has yet to win a STARDOM championship. It remains one of the few major promotions that she has yet to tick off her list.
