AJ Styles coming back to TNA Wrestling has been the worst-kept secret of the week. TNA President Carlos Silva has put the word “Phenomenal” in all his recent tweets. It still had to be confirmed.
As the July 17 edition of TNA iMPACT! was coming to an end, a 45-second video started to air. Not a lot of words, but two things to retain: “P1” and “TNA Slammiversary.”
AJ Styles announced that he would retire before he turns 50 (he turned 48 in June). He couldn’t have retired without coming back to the House he has built. A place that has turned him into a huge star and made him a future Hall of Famer.

As 2025 is the year of John Cena’s retirement in WWE, Styles is about to benefit from the WWE/TNA partnership to close that chapter of his career. Styles has been vocal about wanting another match against Frankie Kazarian as his opponent for one last match in TNA.
At the same time, Mike Santana and the current TNA World Champion NXT’s Trick Williams said they want a match against Styles. Leon Slater, who also wants a match against Styles, has been dubbed the “next AJ Styles” by Joe Hendry.
We’re moving the stage back to accommodate more fans. This event will be TNA’s greatest achievement and trust me it’s going to be PHENOMENAL. #Slammiversary #TNA @ThisIsTNA pic.twitter.com/9BUxjiIQjj

TNA President Carlos Silva did not comment on what Styles will be doing at Slammiversary. At the same time, Steve Maclin said yesterday on IMPACT that he was open to competing against any wrestler from any company. Whatever happens, AJ Styles just appearing is already something phenomenal.
In 2022, when the company turned 20, AJ Styles recorded a message to the TNA fans. He reminded us how he was there on Day One, how he and all the wrestlers “changed things.” AJ Styles says in the video, “We transcended wrestling.”
How can we not be happy to know it will happen again in the iMPACT Zone?
