SuperNova Wrestling (SNW): Over The Edge with Exclusive Interviews

This past weekend, on May 3rd, in Portland, Maine, SuperNova Wrestling (SNW) and their brand Vortex presented their big event, Over the Edge. For the fans in attendance, they got to see that event, along with tapings for their shows, Shock and Vortex.

It was a night full of hard-hitting matches, and the action will only continue as SNW will be in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on June 28th!

Background of SuperNova Wrestling

When sitting down with the promoter/director, Adam Santos, he explained how SNW came to be. In 2007, Santos and his late friend, Mike Zarba, had been spitting ideas about professional wrestling since Santos began wrestling in 2005 to 2015. Sadly, Zarba passed away in 2009. After trying an experimental wrestling promotion and further experience working in film, Santos started SuperNova Wrestling in 2014.

The Zarba Cup is held in SNW to honor the late Mike Zarba. Two semi-final matches took place on May 3rd to determine who would advance to the finals of the Zarba Cup tournament.

Santos has loved seeing the growth of professional wrestling over the years, with eccentric characters and a complex yet unique skill set. He looks to keep expanding SNW with their incredible talent. They have partnered with brands such as AIWF and SWA and have a good relationship with Torture Chamber Pro Wrestling. They look to continue and expand these partnerships.

Matches

The night kicked off with Yoosaf Odinson vs Shawn Knyte, which was a great match, as the two have very different in-ring styles. In an interview with Odinson and his manager Eddie Whyte, Odinson had to say about his opponent,

“I find that Shawn Knight is truly my first worthy opponent in this dump of a wrestling company.”

Eddie Whyte has said they are possibly looking for a championship match after the match with Knyte; they want all of the gold. Stay tuned to SNW TV on YouTube to find this match and the others that occurred that night. There were matches such as Peter Gianni vs. Stevie Legend, Kainan Bek vs. Matt Deadwood, and more!

Throughout the entire night (multiple tapings), there were 11 matches, and four were championship matches.

Championship Matches

Infinit8+ Championship was on the line between Red Dawg, the champion, and challenger, Isaiah Wolf. Red Dawg has been with SNW for two years and held the championship for over a year. He said that Wolf was his mentor and helped him grow. After the match, when talking to Isaiah Wolf, he had to say,

“Red Dawg learned the difference between mentor Wolf and in-ring competitor Wolf. There’s a difference why I’m at where I’m at and why he wants to get to where I’m at. There are levels to this. And eventually he’s going to get there, but when he gets there, I’m going to be way better than I was the last time he saw me. So it’s up to him to catch up with me.”

Corey Duke had wrestled in two championship matches this night, one for the Gemini Tag Team Championships with his tag team partner, All Go Nelli, challenging the champions, the CIA, Frank Bones, and Gree-D Bones. Duke and Nelli currently hold the AIWF Tag Team Championships, which they won in February. When asked what it’s like currently being tag team champions, Nelli had to say it’s like,

“Living the dream day by day, taking it in all at once. So it’s kind of a lot, but we like it, we like the pressure.”

When asked about challenging the tag team champions, Corey Duke had to say this about the CIA,

“We’ve been all over the country, all over the world, we’re ready for anybody. To us, these guys are another Saturday night, but we’re not taking them lightly. We know what we’re in for.”

The other championship match that Corey Duke was involved in was his challenge for the Apex Championship against Tony Clash. The last time Duke was at SNW, he was tag teaming with Clash, now they are opponents.

SNW World Openweight Championship

The SNW World Openweight Championship was on the line with champion Johnny Pierce defending his title against Brother Bedlam in a first-time match. This is also Bedlam’s first championship match, as it is impressively his first year in the industry, when reflecting on it, he had to say,

“I finally kinda earned my spot in the championship match, and to know that this promotion thinks I’m good enough to be in that match, that’s really cool.”

Bedlam doesn’t underestimate Pierce’s size and strength, but he’s not worried about having a championship match.

“I’m not here to win a belt. I’m here to break legacies and break backs more than anything.”
