Preview: WWE SmackDown (1/19/24) – Royal Rumble Fatal-Four Way Contract Signing

We are two weeks out from one of the most exciting Premium Live Events WWE has to offer, the Royal Rumble. That said, the Friday night superstars of WWE SmackDown will not let up one bit on the way to one of the big five, evidenced by this week’s exciting iteration of the week-ending action-packed program.

Without any further ado, here is a preview of the latest episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Let’s run it down.

Full WWE SmackDown Match Card:

  • “KO Show” w/ Kevin Owens – Special Guest: Logan Paul
  • Royal Rumble – Contract Signing: Fatal-Four Way Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles vs. LA Knight
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: Katana Chance & Kayden Carter vs. Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn

Trial by F(y)re

To cap off 2023, former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Katana Chance and Kayden Carter struck gold when they defeated Chelsea Green and Piper Niven to earn their first reign as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. This win solidifies Chance and Carter as a force to be reckoned with as the top champions of the division.

Unfortunately for them, there is darkness looming, with Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn wanting to end this dream run before it even gets off the ground. Fyre and Dawn want gold around their waist after losing the unification match of the WWE and NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles.

For Carter and Chance, this is probably the biggest achievement of their careers thus far, and they will not let anyone take their newly won titles without one heck of a fight.

Will Katana Chance and Kayden Carter notch their second successful title defense? Or will Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre win their first set of WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships?

Sealing the Deal

Despite the noble attempts of his “Wise Man” Paul Heyman to get the Fatal-Four Way contest for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship called off at the Royal Rumble, the match remains as intended, and Roman Reigns will try to retain his title opposite Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and LA Knight.

WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis brought down the hammer on The Bloodline last week. As mentioned, Heyman did everything he could to make Aldis call off the bout, beating down Cameron Grimes as he was making his entrance to face Grayson Waller, with the match never happening.

For their troubles, Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso were put in a compromising position. With Reigns not available and no superstar in the back wanting no part of them, the brothers had to take on the three megastars in Handicap Match, which ended badly for the ‘Tribal Chief’s” men.

With everything locked and loaded, there’s only one thing left to do, and that’s sign on the dotted line. How will these combustible elements react to each other when they meet in the ring 14 days from their momentous showdown?

Something’s got to give this Friday night on WWE SmackDown live only on Fox!
